Why? You could baptize anyone by water and they not even know what your doing. Only YOU, can "repent by "immersion, it can't be done for you by anyone.
Jesus was baptized in water. YES. why? Jesus lived His entire life in the mosaic age, under the Law of Moses. John The Baptist preached, "water baptism". Jesus set a example of "obedience", by following the Law. John The Baptist said himself, There will be one come after me, that will "baptize" with the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ Himself, "baptized" nobody by water. He had the power to "save" people,Himself. Jesus spoke of "the age to come". What age is that? The "Christian age". That happened Acts. chapter 2. It was THEN, the Holy Spirit fell upon them in the upper room, and "filled" (baptized" by immersion). They all became in ONE accord.

The Bible says: You are "baptized" several ways. It never says "water" one time. Lets look at Baptized:

Into Christ Jesus Romans 6:3
Into Moses 1 Cor 10:2
Into one body 1 Cor 12:13
for the dead 1 Cor 15:29

Mark 16:16 He who has "believed" AND is "baptized" shall be saved; but, he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

ok? That talking about John The Baptist "baptism" by water. READ the significance of the statement.

He that believes and is baptized (immersed in Christ) shall be saved. ok? He that disbelieved shall be condemned. You are condemned by disbelieving, not for not being water baptized.

You should be water baptized. Yes. BUT not as a prerequisit for salvation.

Besides being an example for us, Jesus told John that it was to fulfill all righteousness (Mat 3:15). John stated that he was the one who needed to be baptized by Jesus recognizing that Jesus was greater than himself (Mat 3:14). There is a Biblical example that Jesus was also following. God often uses someone who has been under the ministry of a man God that has tried and approved. Some examples: Elisah followed Elijah, king David was anointed by Samuel. Timothy was commissioned by the apostle Paul. Jesus was submitting himself to John's ministry which was from God. John's father was a priest of Israel and so had spiritual authority and no doubt mentored John. Jesus at one time said that concerning John there was no one greater born of a woman. John came out preaching after about 400 years of silence from the last prophets of the Old Testament. God was picking up the prophetic mantel so to speak with John who's main mission was to prepare the way for Jesus. Jesus was showing that He was following the Father's will by accepting John's ministry. When Jesus was baptized by John, the Holy Spirit showed up in the form of a dove and descended upon Him and the Father in Heaven spoke, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". Jesus is God's son and the messiah while John the Baptist was the greatest prophet who lived.

enable me see if I bear in mind. It became a lengthy time period in the past... erm... John preceded christian baptism. It became in ordinary words years after that Jesus himself advised his disciples to baptize. good concepts could not be waisted. He stated something like: "Be sparkling contained in the sight of the Lord. flow now and sin no extra." And that became it. It became ritual cleansing... not a lot a initiation it later grew to develop into. The kicker became obviously the 'signal from the heavens'. it is what made the ritual properly worth repeating on each aspiring christian. it may be the first 'signal' even as Christ returns.

Jesus is the one and only Messiah, but in the Bible there are other disciples and individuals that were blessed to do certain things....or they were instructed by GOD.
