Yes, you can get a copy of a death certificate (for a price- usually $5-10?). Go to the county registrar's office. It has to be obtained in the county of the death, I think. It might also be available in the county of birth, too.

They sure are! I found a long lost friend's death certificate online...I can't remember where though. It even showed his social security number and I could find out alot of information about his life that way if I put forth the effort. It didn't say though, how he died. I would have had to pay to see that information...even though I already know how he died. Just go to some search website like yahoo and type in something like "Find death certificates" and work from there.

I believe that some of the information on a death certificate is public information but not all of it, so you can request information but sometimes they will not let you look at the certificate itself unless you are an immediate family member.

Yes they are public information. Each city has an area where you can go to get birth, death and marriage certificates. You fill out some paperwork and pay your money.

no death certificates are not publiccc informatioonn dont the dead desrerveany kind of pricacy in there final days here?? thats why they print obits-- obituaries in the newspapers, you have no right too a strangers death certificate none what so everr, and why would you want too look up somebody who croakedd anyways?? if you need certain information on somebody in your life that was close or reltive here go too the library and look in therere files you cant get it anwhere else here etc!1

no. My sister died, and I was not allowed to see the official death certificate.

They are, unless the death was ruled not by natural causes, and the death is under investigation.

far as I know they are as well as birth certificates. call your local municipal building and ask them where you can get that info from.
