Expository Sermon -- A sermon which goes systematically through the Bible (or a section of the Bible) verse by verse and explains the background and the context and the meaning of the verse/ passage.

Topical Sermon -- on the other hand, takes a topic and teaches about that topic. E.g., how can I become a Christian; how do I become like Christ; What is baptism; who is my neighbor according to Jesus etc.

Cordially,
John
