Why do people say that Muslims do not belong in the west?
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtxFmcavVF3h2PcR48HMLp8SBgx.?qid=20060810062358AAKrJ7m&cp=2&tp=2#all-answers

Just because my husband is Muslim does not mean he can't be British.

My husband was born in the UK so were his parents. His mother can even trace her family back to the Magna Carta.

He has served in the Bristish Army in Northern Ireland and Bosnia protecting his country and the people who say he is not British just because of his religion..

He now has a susccessful business paying taxes and giving jobs to people like those who say Muslims can't be British..

My husband loves his country. And the British values of freedom , fairness , and democracy. He is a true Brit.

Are those people who want to take away my husband human rights acting like true Brits?

What right do they have to say that my husband and other Muslims can not be British?

I'm sorry people are being so horrible. Of course your husband is a true Brit! If he has been in the army he has done a damn site more for the country than a lot of the indigenous Brits sitting on their arses and moaning!

Strangely I don't think it was the attacks themselves that have made some people anti-muslim - most (sensible) people realise that not all muslims are extremists. Rather, I think it has been the reluctance of some of the muslim community to condemn the attacks or define themselves as British that has alarmed people and created the feeling of 'an enemy within'. The media certainly don't help much either!

The result is that many muslims feel they are ostracised and viewed only in a negative and very stereotypical fashion, whilst many British people think that muslims who they'd previously seen as British actually don't think of themselves as so, but identify more with their 'brothers' in the middle east which feels very disloyal

It's a horrible situation and I hope something can be done about the impasse soon.

Those UK-born Muslims who incited murder outside the Danish embassy this year are not true Brits, whetever their legal status may be, and theirs is the face of Islam for many people. However it sounds like your husband is very different, and has every right to claim this country as his own. Don't be bothered by what ignorant people say - a lot of people will say more outrageous things with the anonymity of Y!A than they would dare to in person - and don't be afraid to stand up for him knowing you're right.

Of course he can be a true Brit and Muslim at the same time. My only advice is to ignore the rasist comments that say he can't be.

You get racist people everywhere, just need to stay away from them.

Whatever your passport says, that is your nationality.

I personally am quite happy not being British though!!

you say you can trace his family back to the magna carta? in what way? what is his ancestral background?

are they saying he can't be british because he's muslim, or is it because he's got a middle eastern background?

It might have something to do with what happened last week. It wasn;t catholics who almost blew up 10 jetliners bound for the US.

You'll have to ask what their motives are.
