My highlights have grown out and my roots are dark brown. I won't be able to get an appointment until September. Can i just put toner in it in the meantime? Or would it affect my roots too. How can i make them less noticeable until then?

Yes,I assume you plan to do an all over color.
Use Clairol Gray Busters, they have neutral bases, the color numbers will be as such 85n, 87n,and so on.They have a shade in dark brown,but....I suggest you use a light to meduim brown with 20 volume creme developer. When coloring over bleached/highlighted hair the hair tends to be darker than the color chosen. When you apply color try to apply to highlights only, leave on 20 minutes, then mist hair with water and massage color into roots leave on 3 minutes tops, shampoo, condition, and style.
If you hair is thick or long buy 2 bottles of color it is always better to have to much than to little.
You will mix equal amounts of color and developer. If using 2 ounces of color then use 2 ounces of developer.

i'd use a pink based shampoo or one for white hair, sounds wierd i comprehend notwithstanding it works. additionally in case you seem in superdrug they do little bottles of toner at around 99p (small gray bottles) they do a sort of hues yet i come across the ash one is the nicest. It wont make your highlights gray or ash purely takes out the yellow brassy tones. you will discover thse bottles with the hair hues. superb and common do a toner as properly they are around £2.ninety 9 and the beige blonde is unquestionably superb. stable luck

I wouldn't try it. The chemicals may interact badly. Go to the store and get a touch-up kit. They are fairly cheap, and many of them come with their own applicator brush for an easy-to-do job, less mistakes. I use Clairol's Nice 'N Easy for in between touch-ups. About $4.
