I don't believe Jesus was a fraud if what he is alleged to have said was occasionally metaphor or a poetic manner of speech. For example, faith alone is not going to move a mountain.
What I believe is an almost complete fraud is Christianity. The authors of the Bible were selected from many available gospels and there has been a lot of editing. Christians have had their own agendas and most of the time it was not spiritual.

Plenty of people believe Jesus (WAS) a fraud. There is no way for any of us to really know whether Jesus was what he claimed (that he was the Son of God) however. He no longer exists, no one who ever knew him exists anymore, and the record of his life is scant, and filled with mystery (like where he was between ages 6 and 26). The message of Jesus must be considered seperately from the issue of whether or not he was actually the son of God. He could have been a visionary and a philosophical genius, and still have been deluded about his own divinity. His teachings, his philosophy, have profoundly influenced human history. I am a strong believer in Christ; I don't believe he was a "fraud" at all. But I come to this conclusion not from any position of knowledge, but spiritual belief. I believe that love exists, and the implications of the existence of love deeply impact my thinking on religious philosophy.
I suspect the questioner is quite young. All the best to you. Continue asking questions. Questions are far better than answers. That's what I believe.

There's fraud and then there's fiction. Fraud would be more like impersonating someone. Jesus, if he wasn't the real deal, would have been a fictional character.

As for so many people believing it - if your parents called you stupid from the time you were a baby, chances are you would believe it all your life. Please note I am not calling you stupid, I am just using it as an example. For centuries, people have been, out of 'hope' for something better in life and in death, believing in what the bible tells us. Therefore people believe it.

I personally believe in what is - you're born, you live, you die. Until such time as I do die, I intend on living and 'hope' if there is anything after I die that it isn't a horrible thing. I do not live my life 'hoping' that there is a god and heaven because life itself brings enough disappointments, I'd rather be pleasantly surprised when I die than disappointed.

Jesus was, in fact, two thieves crucified by the Romans to punish the Biblical Jews for their Greed and for being the murderers the Christ told them they were in John 8:44.

Jesus 1 and Jesus 2 make it four in the Trinity but the Chriscrosses cant count hours or days of persons and make Friday night to early Sunday morning 3 days and 3 nights.

Go for them Bro!

We'll probably never know, because there are no surviving records from the time of his life. The Gospels were all written by Greeks who did not even live in "The Holy Land".

Anything is possible. He existed or he didn't, he was the Son of God or a mortal, all of what he said is in the Gospels, only some of what he said is in the Gospels, or nothing that he said has survived in writing. I'm sure there are more.

What's more important than his existence is the attitude of modern Christians. I noticed one responder who said he was not a fraud, and that you'll be hanging by your thumbs from the gates of hell.

This sort of threatening imagery is typical of a truly sick mind. It seems that even those Gospels we have, whether or not they contain his actual words, are not practiced by Christians who claim to believe in them. Not only are there threats of violent, eternal punishment - something that no decent human being would ever do - but the apparent authority of Christ to make merciful decisions is ignored.

Can you believe it? A self-professed Christian actually believes that she has the authority to decide whether or not you will go to hell.

If he was real and the legends of his human decency are correct, Jesus Christ would grant you more mercy than she did, and his mercy will have authority as opposed to her upstart condemnation of you.

Later: oops, there's another one! A threat that when Jesus returns, you'll "change your tune", along with a reference to a "Left Behind" novel that is every bit as fictional as "The Da Vinci Code".

Ironically, even if you have done something wrong and Jesus is what the Gospels say he is, he'll forgive both of you. The bonus is that the Christians will realize how wrong and cruel they are, and apologize to you personally. However, beyond that, NO ONE WILL SUFFER. ALL OF YOU will live in eternity with Him.

Now, whose vision of Christianity is better? Mine or theirs? Mercy and eternal bliss, vs. intolerance and threats of eternal torture and regret?

I've gone on record stating that Jesus Christ is a fraud, as well as saying that the Xian god is unworthy of worship, in response to someone saying atheists are afraid to challenge Christ. I figured that if they are real, calling them out like that would get to to prove their existence, if only to smite me.

From a senior;

The answer is no. The problem is that you do not have what it takes to figure this out for yourself unless you are willing to study, You need to ask why you exist, what you are, and where will you end up. There is a certain misunderstood book that may give you a clue if you have the b_lls to read it, and believe it without asking a preacher what it means.

Not Jesus. He never existed. It is his followers that are complete and utter frauds.

If Christians would only think, they would see that orthodox
religion rests upon suicide -- that man was redeemed by suicide,
and that without suicide the whole world would have been lost.

If Christ were God, then he had the power to protect himself
from death. But instead of using his power he allowed them to take
his life.

If a strong man should allow a few little children to hack him
to death with knives when he could easily have brushed them aside,
would we not say that he committed suicide?

There is no escape. If Christ were, in fact, God, and allowed
himself to be killed. then he consented to his own death --
refused, though perfectly able, to defend and protect himself, and
was, in fact, a suicide.
Robert Green Ingersoll, 1894
