It takes us too long to learn, too long to know what is good for us, too long to be wise, until it is too late, and we have aged, and our time came to pass.
It takes us a long time to learn. That is why, we human, will forever remain imperfect, flawed, unwise, until we are too old to matter any more.

We get old too soon--ah yes, a tragedy because if we only could stay young longer or forever we could continue to do so much (not have aches and pains, wrinkles, sags, etc.). Wise too late--if we only had that wisdom it takes a lifetime to accumulate when we are young (we could probably make better decisions, know how to handle situations and people better, have more tolerance, etc.). If only.
By the way, I am related to Benjamin Franklin according to the genealogy research my grandfather did years ago.

It's a fancy way of saying I wish I knew then what I know now. Or Hind-sight is 20/20... (And it's tragedy not tragety......)

A corollary to this would be, "youth is wasted on the young."

I think it means, we are getting old so fast while we are not getting smarter as fast as we are getting older...got it?
