I think people including myself believe in God because we have a need and a desire for the one who made us for himself. There is nothing in this world that I will be able to take with me into the afterlife. But I have the promises of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Put your Hope and trust in Him my Friend!

How did this thrtead go into speculation about why others don't believe in it? It's as if we atheists haven't answered the "why don't you believe" question over and over...

I suspect people believe in a god to give a sense of order in their lives. The notion that someone is ultimately in control of the world and the universe is a comforting one. I suspect that they regard atheists and agnostics as people who walk the wire eithout a net. There is also the deeply ingrained fear of death that all humans experience. The idea of a life after this one...especially an eternal one...is a comfortable barrier against the inevitable.

As for why I don't, I have yet to find a religious system that is rational, logical, and not half-heartedly pieced together from previous mythology. I don't feel any great surge of emotion when I read or hear the Bible, the Torah, the Quaran, or any other religious book. I'm not impressed by the magical thinking nessecary to keep Christian beliefs alfoat, and I don't like superstition. I have yet to hear a convincing argument for God, and I hear very, very few stories about God's "miracles" that aren't unsubstantiated anecdotes. Any more questions?

Some people believe in God, because not all people believe in God. I understand where everyone is coming from with the answers about growing up in the faith, because of the "family", but once you feel the love and peace God brings to you, you can no longer make excuses. I believe in God, because I know Him. It is true many people attend chruch, because that's just what they have been conditioned to do, but that is only one step. There is so many different reasons why someone believes in God, all different, each with a different calling. Notice, one mentioned the miracles of God, another because of the life He has given them. We each vary...it's not the belief, but the relationship.

Well, why do you believe that their isn't a god?

Why do I believe there are millions of gods, each related to each other?

Well, quite frankly, it's because for all the learning we have done, that's what sits well with us. I could never be an atheist, because I don't want full control of everything. I could never be a christian or any other religion because it's way too constricting to the individual. Shinto is a "way of life" religion. And I love it. ^^

(KA-KEEN! And it's outta the ball park for this one, folks! Lookit that Lost Ark fly! Oh, wait! JESUS CAUGHT IT AT THE LAST SECOND! AMAZING play by the saints!)

At any rate, it works for us. Whatever it is. ^^

Hey. That is a good question for many, because everyone is different. I chose to believe in God because I could not understand the world in any other way, plus I feel him. I see him every time someone smiles at me, everytime a baby is born. You just know that there is a higher power, that we were not by accident, purely by science. The way that the day works out, for example chain of events that lead up to things. When I pray I get goosebumps often, and I know the Holy Spirit is within me, helping me make good decisions and helping me reach out to help make others happy. As for the Bible I believe that some things are not to be taken simply, not really literally. That some things are meant for us to look at it in a modern way, and to relate it to our own lives on how we may be able to make it better. That is my view anyway. Jesus also makes sense to me, that God put himself as a human to come down and show us in the best way how to become more compassionate and humble towards others.

Because with out him. We wouldn't be here on this earth. He brought His Son Jesus on the earth. Because I believe It is a choice to believe in him and i'm glad for the freedom to believe in God as i've heard some countries don't have the freedom to do. God is someone that you can rely in and trust in.

Oh boy, the bias in your question is so subtle. Why do some people NOT believe in God? Is it more logical to believe that all of the design, complexity, beauty, etc. around you is the result of random, blind chance or of a supreme intelligence?

Why do some people not believe in God?????? The people that have chosen to believe in God have a understanding and belief in what he has done and can do, and without him nothing is possible. It is a belief that only he can put in your heart. Those that do not believe in God are not listening to the knocking on their hearts, they have chosen to ignore it!!!!!!!!!!!
