We're taught as early as the academy to be above such things as bewitching tirades.

Most of us (in my experience) learn to play this game in pretty thick skins.

We take alot of verbal abuse every day, but a good Officer won't be distracted by something as simple as words.
When someone is in crisis they tend to listen "ineffectively", causing them to feel like the Officer is listening ineffectively..it's just part of alot of situations that we become involved in.

Experience, training, maturity, and patience..

By the way - we joke amongst ourselves about donuts and pigs - you're not hurting our feelings when you do it..you just sound like a boring rerun.

want me to listen to you?? try telling the truth!!

as far as keeping emotions in check, we fall apart just like anyone else, and as was said already.. we are exposed to allot more then the average Joe... we just do it on our own time when no ones around ( unless it involves children.. I always have trouble when I see one hurt, or have to take one out of an abusive environment)

I'm not a cop so I really can't say, but I'm pretty sure that if you get pulled over for drunk driving you should not spout off about how bad Jews are and then ask them if they are Jewish.

Oh!, and "Sugar T*ts". If its a women officer don't call her Sugar T*ts!

It's all part of the job. Law enforcement officers are very well trained and very disciplined in their job!!!!! Please, if they can be pepper sprayed and tazed during training, then they can definitely listen to some ignorant or harsh words from the public! It's a day in and day out thing!!!

My step father is a State Sgt and it gets hard. The media likes to bash them too. but like he has said, you breathe, ignore them, and keep that moral that you are better than that, to sink to that level to accept those blasts.

I hate when people teach their kids "Bad cop, pulled me over" or "Be good or the cops with come and put you in jail" or whatever. What is that teaching our kids? To *hate* officers. They are out there risking their lives DAILY for us to do what - be rotton to them?

Makes me sick. When my daughter went to preschool all the little boys would play cops and robbers and "shoot that bad cop" and I taught her to stand up and say "My bapa is a cop and he is nice and would save your life" They stopped within a few weeks. :)

Ok, off my soapbox now!

Who cares what they say... I'm not the one in handcuffs. I get to go home to my own bed and watch my own tv. I don't have to eat crappy cafeteria food and I don't have a big guy named "Tiny" wanting to hold my hand.
