Okay, first of all, freaking out over a hampster bite is a no, no. No, poison is not going to infect you. Your hand is obviously going to swell because it's a small wound - I've been bitten by hampsters before and I've never been in trouble with them disease-wise. Wash your hands with soap and warm water and then apply hydrogen peroxide. If your hand is SERIOUSLY swollen, or has taken a change in color or something, than I would consult a doctor.

Okay your hamster does NOT need to be chewing on the bars. I'd get a ten gallon with a lid from wal-mart and set him up in it. Don't stick your fingers thru the bars ever, I had the most tame hamster ever who always bit me when I did that. The reason he bit you the first time was you had food on your hands. He smelled it, went oh that smells good and bit. Don't be scared of him. It's not vicious just pick him up nicely and give him some attention. Always wash your hands if you've been eating before time. I've had three hamsters and I find that this is a pretty good general rule.

You should wash it with very warm water & soap. Pat it dry. Then put a little hydrogen perioxide on it and then some anti-biotic ointment. Check yourself for a fever. Call your Dr. and see if he/she recommends going to the ER or just observing the bite for infection. A lot of times the initial trauma (bite) will cause temporary swelling but no real serious problem. But also, any type of human or animal bite could cause an infection, but not always. But when in doubt, always call your doctor.

wash the wound with water and soap, use an ice pack for swelling, can take ibuprofin for swelling and pain. Ask a vet if this is normal behavior to be expected form your pet or should you worry that it it sick? Ask if in that case should you worry about gettina shot ( like for rabbies ) and be careful when handeling that hamster. Maybe he got a taste for yu blood, liked it, and will be coming for more! (just kidding)

Hamsters aren't poisonous, but that doesn't mean there isn't infection. Wash the wound out with soap and water, pour some kind of antiseptic over it, and go to the emergency room.

well, i got bitten by my hamster too. mine bled really bad, and it was swollen badly also. mine wasjust 3 little marks, and it got that bad. it healed and i have a scar, but if you are so worried, go to the doctor. i was, but mine healed before i knew it. that was before i heard about the little hamster desese and stuff, and so maybe you should go. you probly dont have the disese though, or your hamster would have been dead by now.
good luck!

Try going to the doctor. If it's a house pet (like one you get from a pet store) than you should be fine. don't panic, cause you most likely won't have rapies or anything.

If it's swollen really bad then you should go to the doctor....get a degu...they don't bite unless you're mean to them....look them up online, you've probably never heard of them...and they are NOT a rodent, but look like one.

Hamsters are mammals, and all mammals can carry rabies. So see your doctor ASAP.
