It depends on what her objection is. If she's worried about litter box trianing, get a cat that's about a year old and litter trianed. If she's worried about hair. Get a short haried cat and research the amout of shedding the cat does. Some cats (like one I have) do not shead almost at all while others (like another one I have ) sheads all over the place.
If it comes to desperate times, you could allways try the "the cat was going to be killed and I couldnt' let it" deal, but I'm not sure how well that would work out.

Do you have a job to afford a cat? cats need shots, check ups, flea preventive, de-worming and they need to be spayed/neuterd. ALL of these things must be done for your new cat so she can be a healthy, happy feline. Maybe your mom dosnt want to have to worry about the expenses. In order to be a responsible pet owner, routine vet care is needed for the entire life of your pet. Many cats dont get the simple care they deserve and end up at shelters.
give it some thought and maybe talk it over with your mom. if she still says no, your SOL untill you move out.

To show her how serious you really are, draw up a contract stating specifically all the ways that you are prepared to care for this cat and what your responsibilities will be, including buying cat food and litter, cleaning up after the cat (hairballs, puke etc.) cleaning out the cat box every other day at minimum, feeding the cat everyday, taking it to the vet for proper shots etc., etc.
Research the costs involved. Cost of shots, shots needed, cost of weekly food and litter.
When your Mother sees that you are prepared to sign on the dotted line in a legal contract she may be more flexible.

Tell your mom that you think you are responsible, and give the example about the rabbit. Also talk to some other family members. That's how I got my cat. My dad's answer was no and the entire family cracked down on him. LOL. Just keep trying.

Try babysitting someone elses cat or volunteer at a pet shop or an animal shelter. Ask the others at the shelter to give your mom a report on how well you did with the cats.

Take her with you to Pick it out...and let her make the suggestion on which 2, after you ask her which one of the 3 should you get!! Works like a charm.

start being MORE responsible than you ever have been......do things without even being told! She'll catch on (maybe) and see what you are doing but maybe she will see how bad you want it and let you have it!
