In a society of immigrants, where government and corporations, so avidly pursue survey after survey, to collect data about ethnicty, do we really understand the meaning of such common terms as Anglo, Hispanic, Caucasian, and why these terms are mostly used incorrectly (either as all-inclusive or mutually-exclusive)?

no we don't understand it. it is used to socially divide people into pre-arranged "boxes". it promotes stereotypes, and since ethnicity is defined as relating to groups through common traits or customs, anyone who has grown up in the USA should get to check the American box!! we are constantly divided by our physical characteristics, instead of celebrating our society as a whole. most "african americans" i know have never been to africa, nor have their parents or grandparents, they know nothing of any customs other than US customs, yet they are not allowed to be just plain old american - it seems to be reserved for whites only. no one says they are irish american, at least that i've known

I know what you mean. One of the words that is used incorrectly pertaining to ethnicity the most is the word "Hispanic." Many people do not know this, the word Hispanic simply means that you have ancestry the comes form a spanish speaking latin american country. A Hispanic person can be of any race, so you could be black, white, asian and be considered Hispanic. The media makes a lot of misconception of this. For example, back when the 2000 census was released, many saw headlines stating, "Hispanics have outnumbered Blacks." There are probably a little over a million blacks who are hispanic that hail from the Dominican Republic, not to mention Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Veneuzuela, Cuba, and othe Latin Countries. Also, DNA research has shown that a large majority of Puerto Ricans, who are considered to be hispanic, have African Ancestry in them. Finally, there was a large population of blacks that lived in Mexico that assimilated into the current Mexican population back in the 17-1800's, so some Mexican-Americans have African ancestry. Therefore, is it correct to say that Hispanics have outnumbered blacks? There is definitely a gray area here.
Caucasian is another questionable label. If you look at some of the census figures, you'll notice a large chunk of the Hispanic population is considered White, even though this a small percentage of their "true white" counterparts. The reason being is although the majority of Hispanics are Mexican-American, these people are considered "legally white", although Mexican-Americans are usually mestizo, mixed with Amerindian (American Indian; Native American) and Spaniard (Native of Spain) The White Hispanic also can be from El Salvador, Argentina, or any other Latin American Country.
The last major ethnic label that can be confusing is Asian-American. When one thinks of an Asian American, one thinks of people of East Asia (Japanese, Chinese, Vietamese, etc) but asian can include East Indians ( the people of India), Pakistanis, and others.
The United States is the only country in the world that uses labels of race and ethnicity. In any other country, the citizens indentifiy themselves with soley that country, even though they are of different ethnicities. For example, black people from Colombia will say ther are Colombian, not Afro-Colombian. Instead of splitting up people with different ethnic labels in this country, we need to do away with these labels because under one umbrella, we are all American.

Mans interpretation of the scriptures confuse the persons as a results of their confliction with one yet another. God stated with the aid of Isaiah that his word would be prevalent and not return void (Isa fifty 5:11) way too many so pronounced as christians bypass away it as much as their clergy to define the scriptures somewhat of asking God to assist them as they examine and learn His word. those are lazy non christians and the church homes are packed with them. you are able to no longer learn and comprehend the bible with out the help of God's Holy Spirit and using "sturdy's Concordance" to be sure the relatively which skill of the Hebrew or Greek word. The bible is a non secular e book and could be examine with the spirit. so some distance as that pastor with the tattoos, he would are transforming into them before he became into saved.
