I am buying an item and it says "new in box", does that mean it is new but opened once? Or does it mean completely new? Thanks.

It means that you have all the original packing materials, instructions, and the box is like new. It may have been opened and even removed from the box, bags, etc. but was never used and has all been put back just like new.

In one sense, this is to your advantage because it suggest the seller took it out to make sure it works. On the other hand, if you do buy it and find it is dirty or shows any wear then you would have a valid misrepresentation claim.

Depends on the seller. Most times it means that it has not been opened. Read the entire description it should tell you in there if it has been taken out of the box or not. And when all else fails, ask the person who is selling it - if it's new and unopened or new and opened.

It should be a brand new product in it's original package. Never used but could be open. Better if it's not open tho.

usually it means new and in the box... so unopened. but if you are unsure and whether it is opened or not effects value then you should ask the seller.

It means that it's brand new and still in its original container.
