Smoothies contain some form of milk or yogurt and ice to make it more like a milk shake. If you are liking them the way that they are then don't change how you are making them. Enjoy.

A smoothie is a virgin Daquiri. A traditional Daquiri has fruit, cream, rum and ice. There's not a lot of difference in composition between yogurt and milk but yogurt whips a bit more nicely, makes a smoothie creamier.

I make a smoothie with skim milk, vanilla soy milk, 1/2 banana, strawberries, ice and splenda. The milk (I used to use plain yogurt) gives the smoothie a creamier texture. The ice gives it more volume otherwise you are drinking fruit puree.

I make smoothies with milk ands yogurt, both straight from the refrigerator. I also use frozen berries so that keeps the drink cold too.
I never use ice as i don't like my smoothies to be too runny.

It sounds like you make good smoothies, I like using a frozen fruit medly with some fresh bananas, but if i only use fresh fruit then i have to add some ice, sometimes i add milk just to make it creamy, or even a container of yogurt too.

If you like them, then you're not doing it wrong. Most smoothies contain ice, fruit and fruit juice. Some do contain milk or cream or yogurt, or I sometimes add a scoop of fruit sherbert.

in a fruit smoothie, you put the fruit in, then put about 1 or 1 1/2 cups of ice, and put maybe 1/2 cup-1 cup of orange juice. Makes it really good. A smoothie always needs ice!!

It depends on what taste you are going for -
I personally like my fruit smoothies without milk, but yes, with ice.
Ice is good to keep the drink cold.
One alternative: use frozen fruit - no ice needed!
Frozen banana smoothie is way yummy :)
(Freeze the bananas without their peels).

As stated before, it doesn't matter. Pretty much, anything that cold and is a good thickening agent. I like to use vanilla yogurt. There's no right or wrong way... as long as you like what you make, that's all that matters.
