I'm glad you asked this question. I didn't know it meant laugh out loud. Somewhere along the line I learned it meant "lots of laughs" hense, lol. I could be totally wrong though since I am not an expert on it. I just imagine when I read it as the person laughing, only thing you can't tell is how loud and how many laughs on this written stuff.
