very red & somewhat swollen. & It hurts especially if it is touch. If it is infected, u can get some ear care solution from either where u got it pierced or dept. store. Use that & move the earring around.

piercings, especially new ones will ooze, there is nothing wrong with that so long as its clear or a whitish color-those are just dead plasma and perfectly healthy. Swelling isn't always a sign of infection as the body will swell slightly to protect the wound from bacteria getting into it. most of what was said is-somewhat-correct but could also be just a sign of irritation from the jewelry or the method of aftercare. a lobe piercing will tend to swell and look shiney as the skin is stretched and filled with pus. Try warm sea salt soaks (1/4 tps to 8oz warm water) for 10minutes 2x a day to help it drain and take ibuprofen to calm the swelling. someone recommended spinning the jewelry-do not do this it'll cause more problems. Do the soaks and if you dont notice any improvement in 3 or 4 days go to a professional piercing studio. If this was done at a mall-do not go back, they are not trained to deal with this sort of thing and will only give you a harsh chemical which will cause more problems.

Ususally you can tell when there is a pus fluid around the ear ring. It can be very sore to you and red. There will look to be a crusty scab there also.
To disinfect it, take some alcohol and put it on the ear ring, making sure it is on your ear too. then twist the ear ring while pushing and pulling it through the hole. This will clean the infection. Do this every day to heal it. It should be all healed in about a week.

Is it red? Is there swelling? Is it tender or painful? Is there pus? The first three are suspicious signs of infection, especially if it was fine before. The last one is a definite sign of infection.

when you touch iit and it hurts a lot also if it's very red also if there is like something white coming out o any bloody liquid or if it smells weird... just try to put some alcohol everyday with a q-tip but don't take your earing out .. it will be hard to put it back on.. the alcohol will hurt a little bit but don't worry is good for your ear try not to touch it with dirty hands.... if your ear is swollen take the earing out and put alcohol and don't put the earing back on !!!

It turns red, and this might sound gross, but you can't fit your earring in to the hole, because it like crusted over, blach!

if it continually hurts and leaks any kind of discolored fluid that isn't clear, like yellow, white, or green. you should clean your piercings regularly to avoid this.

When there's significant discoloration... that's just one of the signs. I don't know any other signs, though.
