I know you don't think it's important, but the way we communicate affects the way we are perceived. If we can't communicate effectively, and I mean speaking as well as writing, then how are we to get our points across? There is a universal standard in spelling and grammar for a reason, that's so that everyone can understand each other. You can easily be perceived as being unintelligent, low-class or just plain dumb, even in an informal setting such as this, if you don't communicate properly.

I don't ever comment about grammar unless a question is specifically asked about it, but I do think it is funny when someone asks a question that slams another group of people while at the same time making grammatical errors. They just look even more ignorant and it gives people reason to criticize them back. Sometimes the grammar is so bad on other questions that I have no idea what the heck someone is even trying to ask...so I don't answer the question. No need to be mean.

It important because life depends on it, if you wanted to impress someone such as a job or colleague.
I think spelling wrong and using incorrect grammar could cause people to think things that are not true. Also it make the person look highly UN-intelligent.
Writing articles highly depend on spelling and using correct grammar...especially if you want to receive a good grade or praise.
If you were to read the paper or a magazine and everything was spelled wrong etc would you really want to buy it again? Or rely on it for your news and information?

"at leats is their bussiness if they don't know how to type correctly......it doesn't affect you.....and doesn't hurt anyone"
WRONG
I'm reading the question, you're not being understandable. It is my choice to read your question - yes - however, it wastes my time to pull up a question, try to read it and have to re-read it, then go screw it, and skip the question.
Even though it only takes 5 seconds, that was STILL MY TIME.
In any case, it also bothers people because communication is the #1 salvation of the human kind, and so many people these days take it for granted.
I work with people that REFUSE TO READ, and I feel sorry and bad for them. They've gone in life so long pretending that they did not have to read or write correctly that now they are afraid too.
No one wants that for another human.
So please, start trying at least? All it takes is an attempt, and in time, you will get better. It may take years - but people can sense when you try versus when you "don't even care."
Plus, it's rude. Makes you look stupid and idiotic too. Do you want to walk around the world and everyone pointing and laughing at you calling you an idiot?
No?
Well, that's what you're doing now, when you type incorrectly "on purpose."

Words articulated with a clear understanding of the recipient receiving the message is important. How important is it that the person receiving the message be accurate or without obvious misunderstandings?
Did you know that on a street level, most disputes lead to death due to misunderstandings? Most of those misunderstandings occur do to unclear levels of communications.
Too much strictness in the correctness of English is not good. The funny thing is, the English professors around the country that enjoy finding error in others usage of the English language are not popular published writers. In fact, most of the highly recognized writings published in history were not the best in grammar and or English correctness, but yet were widely read by a vast audience of readers.
Too many grammatical and English errors can distract from the intended message of the writings leading the reader to put down the book or material. On the other hand, the writer could be so precise in the writing that it again attracts too much attention to the writer itself distracting the reader.
I must agree, it is absurd at the number of people still today in our society that attempt to judge ones intelligence based upon how others use the English language, vocabulary, etc. None of those things can be an accurate determination of ones intelligence. How can an intelligent individual conclude such a belief if they are in fact educated? But they do.
Anyone with the desire and ability to learn can speak, read, and write with a great degree of accuracy and perhaps be perceived as intelligent based upon societies acceptance of intelligence. There are people in our society that could never read a few years ago nor speak so called intelligently to others, but today speak, read, and write better than his college grad counter parts. Why? Be there were able to learn just like the rest of us.
Many people in our society can be easily fooled as a magician performs magic. Our person can speak like a rocket scientist or in fact, speak like he or she is a criminal lawyer and be knowlegeable to answers questions about his or her subjects with great command, but not have a law degree or any professional degree whatsoever.
Whats the point? Although there are no English Grammar COPS out there to enforce those rules of the game, we can write, and speak with enough English to make our points clear without confusion and win. No great eccentric words are necessary to accomplish that. Even a Rap Artist like Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls or Notorious BIG can make clear metaphors real visually.
The point, as long as your words can reach the mind(s) of the reader with your point made clearly, all the rest of this subject is academic.

First off, not everybody can understand you if you're not spelling right and using incorrect grammar. Second, it gets annoying having to try and figure out what you're trying to say when all people want to do is hurry up and read it. And there are so many other reasons for people to use correct grammar/spelling. And by the way, you used incorrect grammar and spelt somethings wrong :]

Grammar and spelling is important because it makes what you say understandable. I honestly have a hard time reading your questions because I find bad grammar difficult to read. As for the spelling, there's no excuse. Yahoo! gives you a spell check button, not using it is just ignorant to anyone attempting to read the question.
I'm not trying to be supercilious or insult you, but I honestly have a hard time understanding bad grammar.

It's important to write well. If people don't try to write a coherent question, they seem like they don't care. Sometimes it's understandable, specially when non-english people join in, but it's like personal image when meeting someone.
It's not that you want them 100% perfect, but at least that you can understand what they're asking, or what they're answering.
Spelling and grammar should be important for all written comunication, not just business or school.

It is a pet peeve of mine when people use poor grammar or spelling. A bigger pet peeve of mine is people who mention it. It is rude to correct someones grammar. If someone spells something wrong and you know what they mean, just answer the question without commenting on the spelling.
