In a world and time where we rely and depend on facts, hard evidence and science, its hard to continue believing in something that was created hundreds to thousandths years ago by a more primitive minded human.
The modern day equilevent is believing that God will cure a disease rather than medical science.

When the Holy Spirit revealed the simplicity of the Gospel to me 25 years ago, I had already walked away from the Catholic Church, despising the extreme hypocrisy and frustrated that when I asked the priests or nuns questions about God, they took me down theological rabbit trails that proved to me they really didn't KNOW Who they were talking about. Since that time, I have learned that it is possible to find the truth in Catholicism, but you have to shovel through a lot of useless traditions to find it!
And by the way, if a Catholic says to me that they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, I treat them as a brother or sister until I see fruit that proves otherwise.

Catholic religion is very good if you believe in the Trinity, however at some point in time we are all smart enough to know it time to move on and away from any religion then return when you get old, so you can have something to do. If and when that day comes for me I shall return to the Catholics for they are the mother of Christianity

Yes. Brought up Catholic, and they spelled hypocracy with a CAPITOL "H". Then switched to Lutheran, and realized they were just Catholic Lite. Then Episcopalian, they're Catholic Ultra Lite. And not one of them could give me good answers to my religious/bible questions.
Atheist now, because it's what makes the most sense to me.

Yes, I'm an ex-Catholic, but I shiver at the thought that I could have been raised a Protestant. I gave up the faith in Christianity in general, because I guess I'm too intelligent for that religion. I don't like dogmas.

Yes, I am an ex-Roman Catholic because it is(to me anyway)a religion of guilt and shame. I went to 12 years of Catholic school and all I remember hearing was how God was going to punish me for my sins. The Christian God is not a punishing God he is a God of love and acceptance! Being Catholic I was scared of God- I do not think you should be scared of your God.

Yup.
Lets see, they preach a strange blend of God being loving, while the crucifix has Jesus with his head lolling in pain, that we're going to be punished for our sins. The church is full of hypocrisy and dogma noone truely follows.
And I will admit paedophillic priests had something to do with it as well.
Its taken a wonderful underlying message and corrupted it.

Maybe cos they been disillusioned by the many who abuse the many man-made structures and rules in a religion that has received so much influence from man over the years. Its really quite hard to find God through all the ritual. Yet for others, the ritual gives them access to God...
Different strokes.

I am an exCatholic.
I broke from the church because their practices/masses/doctrines were not in line with what the Bible preaches. It is one thing to be a Christian, and another to understand the differences between Christianity and Catholicism.
I am not criticizing Catholics, just saying that it was not for me.

Since around may of this year, i began to read about logic and rationality, about the early christian church, the inquisition, the genocide of God's chosen people in WWII and all the other evilness in the world not to mention the world-wide natural calamities, biblical fairy tales, etc. etc..
Something 'popped' in the lower temporal regions of my brain and i thought how foolish i've been for the last 50 years.
Believing in something with no proof now makes no sense. Now i'm reading the writings of Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, and others, at least they make sense.
