NEVER!! Then you're lowering yourself to their level!
Best thing to do - I warn you, it takes practice but it's well worth it - smile broadly and say something like "I hope you have a good day, too!" Keep smiling, turn and walk away. It will KILL them.
If your boss does it, just sit there with a small smile on your face and look out the window. Occasionally, glance at him/her (women are worse bosses) and if they're still yelling - right back to the window.
Once they STOP yelling - say something like: "Now, was there something you'd like me to do? Is there something you'd suggest as to how I can fix this so it won't happen again?" And the ever popular: "Are you finished yet, because I have a lot of work to do." ALL with a SMILE.
NEVER raise your voice, be rude or make faces. If the phone rings - let it - someone will pick it up or it will go to voicemail. If the abuse gets REAL bad and you think you're going to blow, say "I'm going to excuse myself now" and GO -FAST!
You might want to go right to Personnel.
Always be polite.
Always smile.
This is what will get them in the end.
If it IS your boss doing this - it's against the LAW!!

You ask a 2 part question.

Part one - "Should you curse someone out if they curse you out?" My answer is simply no. Reasoning behind that is why would you want to lower yourself to that level?

Part two - "How do you react if your boss yells at you?" My answer is two part. First, I have been lucky enough to have only been yelled at one time during my 27 years working. At that time I simply let the boss yell, then asked "are you through?" I acknowledged the anger (put it back on them), then stated we should adress what is causing the anger. NOW... if a boss were to curse at me, I would simply state I was not going to sit there and be verbally abused. I would simply walk out. Second, it doesn't feel good to be yelled at.

I have learned that yelling back solves nothing. Best to
a) Acknowledge the other persons anger (validate their feelings)
b) Then ask what can be done so they feel better about what is causing them the anger

You should curse someone out if they curse you, unless you want to look like the bigger man. If your boss yells at you, fix whatever he thinks you're doing wrong. If your boss curses you out, quit.

Staying calm pisses people off even more. It makes them crazy! If your boss curses you off, just stay quiet until they are finished. Then quit. I had a ***** of a boss who yelled at me for everything. Finally after she yelled at me for taking a sick day, I quit, calmly and peacefully. She ended up being fired because of the complaint i filed against her. :-)

Depends on where it was. If it was in private, I'd probably tell him/her to stop yelling, and then if he didn't I'd walk away If it was in front of other people, I'd yell right back for him to shut up. and if he cursed at me, he'd get a "F***You, I quit." Nobody needs a job badly enough that they have to take being yelled at and cursed at.

Definitely do NOT curse anyone out... It never solves ANYTHING... just creates an even angrier atmosphere.

If your boss yells at you, just hold your tongue... acknowledge what he said, and then leave the animosity for something inanimate to take it out upon...

I once had a boss that yelled at people. The very first time she tried to yell at me, I stepped into her office and politely told her that it was unacceptable for her to yell at me or anyone else, and that she would need to act civil in order for me to listen to her. She just kind of stared at me, and then apologized. She never yelled at me again - although she did yell at other people. No one should have to tolerate that kind of behavior at work.

As far as someone cussing me out - I would tell them that I am sorry they feel that way, and they have to stoop so low to show their *** in public.

No if you curse them out you are taking yourself down to their level, you can make them feel even worse if you just stay sweet and bubbly and smile, then they don't know what you are thinking!

I'd go outside and take a few calming deep breaths(or in my case, a cigarette), and after I was calmed down, I'd inform the boss that I should like to talk with him about the incident, and if he refuses or continues to be nasty, I'd go over his head, and talk to THEIR boss.

You will find that if you can remain calm and precise you will infuriate anyone who is screaming, looking foolish.Kinda like being passive aggressive. As for your boss just calmly say well ill work on that and smile......it will get his goat lmao.good luck:)
