If you were asked to upgrade from gold to platinum why or why wouldnt you? The annual fee for the platinum card is 400 and the gold is only 90... Anyone out there with the platinum card please tell me the perks of having one? Or is it just something to brag about socailly? I am quite content with my Gold card but if the perks are that much better I may consider? I am not interested in just bragging about the card... and would like more info... to make a better decision. Thanks guys and gals

Back in the day when credit cards were less common, the standard, gold, platinum designation was given to cardholders based on their financial security. Nowadays, cards are so common and banks more eager to entice customers that they will issue brand new customers with a "Platinum" card with as little of a credit limit as $500.

Amex though is a little different and to my knowledge the card designations still carry their benefits for the better colors.

I believe for Amex, the Platinum cards carry more benefits such as room upgrades and better service than with the gold card. So, if you use the extra benefits extensively and would benefit from the services that would pass the cost, do it. Other than that, the extra $310 you are spending will be just for another color of plastic.

there is not much difference between gold and platinum American express card, except you have a privilege to belong to platinum members without spending limit. American express is a brand and belongs to the club cost money.
