Obviously I am not a doctor, and cannot tell you what YOUR doc would say, but I dealt with depression for a long time. I took Zoloft while pregnant and while nursing with my son. There are risks with everything, but my doctor told me sometimes you need to weigh the benfits against the risks. I'm glad you can see the serious issues you may have, and urge you to talk to your doctor. You will ultimately have to make that choice. If you are more concerned about the depression, then maybe it is something you sould seriously talk with him about. I speak from experience....but talk to your doctor. Good luck, and congrats!!

I had a history of depression before giving birth, but no one said anything to me about the risks of post natal depression being higher, and I have actually been LESS depressed than before I had my daughter.
So, my advice is to wait and see if you need antidepressants, maybe you could get by on just having counselling.
In any case, the only person to give you an answer to this will be your doctor. Don't take anything without your doctors advice.
Good luck with motherhood. If you want to contact me to talk about anything, feel free to use the 'contact Pam' link.

The only person who should advise you is YOUR DOCTOR, not wannabe people. For the sake of your baby's health, listen to your doctor.

Your OB will be able to tell you what type to take and since you need a script for it anyway, talk to them about it now.
