I was in the operating room with a 27 year old woman, a young surgeon, and 2 sixty plus old nurses and me, 40. The patient emitted some foul gas and the 29 year old says to the surgeon, OKay, which one of those nurses just s### her Depends? She said it to be funny for the young surgeon but I thought it was in extremely poor taste.

Did this woman say it quietly behind their backs, or out loud in front of the nurses? Either way, it was very juvenile, and I bet she failed to impress the surgeon with her "wit" as she had intended. If she said it out loud in front of them, it was incredibly rude, and makes for a hostile and uncomfortable work atmosphere, and should be reported. She should have asked herself how she would have liked to be the "butt" of such a tasteless joke? (Speaking of which, sorry for the lame pun.)

It's funny for Yahoo but inappropriate for the workplace. For all the joker knew, someone in the room may have had a medical problem that necessitates using adult undergarments (and it would not necessarily be one of the 60 year olds).
Even if that isn't the case you could look upon it as age discrimination. It's no different than making a joke about a particular race....again--funny on Yahoo or with your friends but not appropriate for the workplace.
And lastly the use of the word 'SH$$' is not appropriate.

Consider the source and make a mental note for future reference. Reporting disrespect of a patient, though offensive, would probably only cause you grief. You might speak to the offender on a one to one basis, and discuss your concerns. It may not make a difference, but at least they would know how you feel. You never know, they may think twice before doing it again.

Doctors tend to have a different sense of humor than your average person, with the things that they see every day, some of it being outright horrific, they have to find a way to lighten it up some.
I wouldn't take it too seriously, but if you're the reporting type, go ahead, more than likely nothing will come of it.

Ask the executive to come back on your desk and if no reaction then walk out without paying, tell the officer that responds to the inquire that the server touched the indoors maximum aspects then toughed the nutrition!

Did the older nurses take offence to it or did they also find the humor in it...I personally think its funny. Let the 60+ nurses take action with it, and if ask offer up your opinion.

Yes it was indeed unprofessional you may not know it from my demeanor on here however when I'm working I am very professional. If you cannot be then it is time to move into something else like pathology perhaps

I've heard some pretty surly 60 year old nurses. I'm sure they're completely able to stand up for themselves.
Quit being so damn thin-skinned and uptight. If you get dished, dish it back at them and don't be a Cindy Brady tattletale.
