noo the suggested weight loss per week is 2 pounds a week, I've heard.... There's no way you can lose that much weight so quickly unless you starve yourself. Just start exercising and eating WELL, like healthy things and you'll be fine.

5 pounds a week is ok. Though this speed often slows down after the first few weeks. Don't over do the exercise and make sure you keep eating health balanced meals and drinking plenty of water.
People usually put the weight back on because when they stop their diet/exersice routine they slip back into old lifestyle habits that do not support the new body shape/weight they have become. Maintaining a healthy weight or one that you are happy with is about life style and understanding healthy eating practices. So do some reading and educate yourself about these things
Be aware exercising will be toning and building your muscles and muscle weighs more than fat. So you may think that your weight/fat loss has slowed or that you have put weight back on. So don't be fooled by this. The tape measure and the way you look in the mirror and the way your clothes fit is your best guide.
And finally don't be worried about what people think of you when you get back to school. I am sure people will notice a change in you even if you have not reached your goal in 2 weeks time. It is far better you be happy and healthy rather than sick and worried through trying to reach a goal that might not be attainable for you. Everyone's body metabilises differently and you cannot predict when you will lose all the desired amount of weight no matter how hard you try. Good luck

Typically experts say that you should only lose 1-2 pounds a week for it to be considered "healthy" weight loss...
You can lose the weight, it's more about an hour or two of exercise along with portion control at meals (eating half a brownie instead of a whole for dessert, eating half a steak rather then a whole one, not loading it with BBQ sauce as well...etc.)
Drinking water rather then soda or anything else with high calories will help you lose as well,...Also remember you can eat all the veggies you want as long as they are not slopped with butter or anything else like sour cream, etc....

Yeah, it's perfectly fine.
I lost 30 pounds in a month about a year ago.
That's pretty much a pound a day.
As long as you're being healty about it, there's nothing wrong with losing that much weight so quickly.

10 pounds in 2 weeks is fine since there are 2 other things you can lose besides bodyfat. Diets do not work. 99% of people gain the weight back. Here is how it works. No one teaches the animal what to eat and what not to eat. He knows instinctively what to eat. Humans also have the same instinct. The way it works is just eat whatever tastes good and that will be healthy for you and non-fattening. That is why a baby tastes everything. So again whatever tastes good, is good for you. This is why you will spit out spoiled milk.
But wait!!! Man has the technology to create rat poison. It tastes like healthy food (good taste) but kills the rat. So man has done that to you. Note- any food unaltered by man (uncooked) that tastes good, is good for you. So if you are stranded in the woods, that is how you know what to eat (cooking changes that). So man has created fake fruit. It tastes like fruit that exists in nature but it is terrrible for health, addictive and fattening called sweets.
So it is natural to like real sweets called fruit, like a baby does, but they have fooled you just like the rat. But they do not want to kill you. They want you to become obese so you will buy lots of their foods. This is called GOOD BUSINESS. Remember the above (not on site) and see site below to re-learn how to eat so you can be thin and fit for life.

They recommend on 2-3 lbs a week. However 5 is not that far off it. Drinking the recommended amount (64oz) a day you can put off about 5-10 lbs.
