Exactly why your puppy is eating his poop is probably because of a vitiman deficiency. Look up the term Coccidiosis. My own puppy had this and her mother was horrible about eating her own feces (poop). I got lucky and caught it in time and took her to the vet. The signs that she has this is mild diarrhea, which progresses until the feces becomes mucoid and blood-tinged. You can train the puppy not to eat the poop by getting a special collar that you can shock her when she starts to eat her poop. Don't let her see you shock her though!!!! Good luck!!

This sounds similar to a situation i had before with one of my dogs.It sounds as if he is missing some nutrition in his diet and he is trying to get it from that.If he is missing something he needs he will eat lots of things and lick things too.You can solve this by simply changing his diet or taking him to the vet to get a supplement.Although,it could be just the fact that its there and he wants to eat it,you could try getting a pooper scooper, those little things you clean a little box with.I dont own a cat but ive seen them and they would be ideal for this job.Use a old used grocery bag, when at the grocery store and they ask if you want paper or plastic get plastic and save them once you have put your grocerys away just for this purpose. Now,once he does #2 go outside where he went, use the pooper scooper and place it in the bag,tie the bag into a hard knot and dispose of it by throwing it in your trash outside of course.Nothing will get to it,it will be taken away to wherever and it will prevent him from eating it most of all. Also, you wont have to watch where you are stepping in your yard when you go outside. As for the bad breath, there are some products on the market to help with that.Im sure they carry it at walmart or even kmart.

i'd also advise taking him out to potty on a leash so you can guide him away from old poop and maybe even get him to potty in a certain area of the yard.
Being able to potty on a leash is a very valuable thing. There will be times when you will need the dog on a leash and want him comfortable enough to be able to do his business.

He is lacking in something in his diet, obviously not poop...but, something. i suggest picking the poop up, and not leaving it in the yard. Dogs try all kinds of stuff. mine likes to eat deer poop, when we walk in the woods. I yell, but he doesn't listen.

Ask your vet about Forbid, it's a powder that goes in their food to make their poop taste nasty (as if it doesn't already).
