Where online can I get good honest criticism for the music I write? I need to know if my music really does sound good, or if it's just me filling in the gaps when I want to hear something I like. I'd really like to find a website that is free to use. (This website must accept MIDI entrants.

The proof is in the pudding. Play your music and get real time input.

Sometimes, recorded music is tricked out with tons of processing, to the point where it cannot be played live. This is part of the problem with "demos" when one approaches a club owner for a gig, as an example. The recording sounds great, but the live performance sucks.

But, if seeking a critique, don't be offended if you don't get the response you were looking for.

I agree with the first answer. Find someone you respect musically but don't typically spend time with as a friend and ask for their honest feedback on your stuff... be prepared to hear it, though. If you can find someone with good insight who's not afraid to be honest and if you're willing/able to apply that insight to your stuff... you'll do quite well.

I don't understand why a website is what you would go to to have your music critiqued.

Why don't you play it for people and see what they think.

You know the web is not the final authority on anything.
