Just wondering...if I open a bottle of room-temp red wine, can I re-cork it & keep it for a few days or will it go bad?

Should I refrigerate it or can I keep it out? Approximately how long will it last?

Thanks!

You can keep it no more than two days at room temp, you'll get a couple of more days if you refridgerate it. Just remember to allow it to come up to temp before you drink it. It won't spoil but it may develop a funk taste. Special stoppers and air pumps don't really work because of areo-contaimination after opening the bottle.

Hi Colleen,

An opened bottle of red wine will start to oxidize the instant that it is open. It won't 'go bad' if you keep it for a week or two, but you will lose the complexities and the flavours of the wine if you keep it longer than 2 days, generally. After a week, the wine will be a pale echo of what it was meant to be, and generally unpalatable.

I never refrigerate red wine unless it's too hot. You won't gain that much by refrigerating it as it's really the oxidization that changes the wine.

For the red wine 2 days, for the vermouth 2 weeks. If they have been open for two years they won't be fit for drinking now, you should throw them away.

Definitely re-cork the bottle. You can also buy pumps to suck the air out. The oxygen in the air will eventually give cause reactions in the wine and ruin the taste. I would say to try to drink it in a week or two.
