. If there really were a personal god, the existence of this god would be an obvious fact in the universe. God would be reaching into events in the world, and bypassing the laws of physics to influence the outcomes. People who lost limbs might have them re-appear. Babies killed in fires might come back to life. Other true miracles would happen. I’ve seen none of this, and I know of no one else who has either. In fact, there is no reliable evidence of any divine intervention, ever! God fails the reality test of everyday life.

Excellent question and points. No doubt you'll get a lot of people talking about how God has intervened in their lives by being there at the right moment...and other selfish answers. Small wonder that God was not there to stop 9/11 because apparently He was giving _X_ career advice.

"If there really were a personal god, the existence of this god would be an obvious fact in the universe."

Let us suppose the existence of God is something so obvious, that 99% of us overlook it.

"God would be reaching into events in the world, and bypassing the laws of physics to influence the outcomes."

Ever think that it was God who made the laws of physics in the first place?

"People who lost limbs might have them re-appear."

Why would God reverse any outcome which takes place in accordance with the operation of His own Will?

"Babies killed in fires might come back to life."

Again, why? You are assuming that God is somehow fighting against the laws of nature, which are the extensions of His Will.

"Other true miracles would happen."

No, what you mean to say is that God would break the laws of nature to benefit individuals. Would God be just if He did such things?

"I’ve seen none of this, and I know of no one else who has either."

And that is the solid proof of the unfailing and constant law of God that you are searching for. The world is not governed by chance. It is governed by law. This law can always be relied upon, and holds true in all cases. So, it is natural that no one has ever seen anything which would go against this law. How could it?

"In fact, there is no reliable evidence of any divine intervention, ever!"

Why should God 'intervene'? He is already in control of everything.

"God fails the reality test of everyday life."

No, your conception of God fails the 'reality test'. Get rid of your narrow concept and start looking for the Truth. Only then will these difficulties be overcome.

Well, if there really was a god other than the natural aspects of science, then we simply wouldn't be able to have observational science, because our observations wouldn't follow the necessary logical pattern.

It's part of the same reason why physicalists can't believe in ghosts (and don't want to). If we believe in the conservation of energy and mass, there's no way for a supernatural entity to interact with the world without somehow adding or subtracting some energy, but that energy didn't come or go anywhere. And while the universe "trading" energy to another plane would explain the conservation of energy and mass, if this systematic changing of energy was kept up, we wouldn't be able to observe the phenomena. On the other hand, if all supernatural phenomena were energy neutral (which is to say, any energy that is put into the equation is immediately taken out of it) we would have less of a difficulty, and the only scientific inconsistency would be that isolated event, which is a lot less likely to be observed.

There are plenty of ways to say "there is god" but it generally has to be an apathetic god, or a weak god. Imagine if god is just dark matter.

You only vented your doubts. Faith is just that...faith...it doesn't mean that God will intervene in each crisis, nor should we expect him to provide a life without strife. I am not a Christian but a Buddhist, and we believe that each life (we believe in reincarnation) is a step in the perfection of the soul, so being born without a leg is a way to enhance out soul or it is a retribution to a prior existence. There is self determination also, you choose or men choose the destiny for nations...Not God! I am an American but have lived much of my life in Asia, and we have a saying...kind of a joke really...When we pray for something very strongly and nothing happens...we say that the Gods were sleeping! Expect no miracles, but think about what may happen after you die...that is the basis of all faiths and religion. We pray to Kwan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy to help but we don't expect her to help...it is only a hope. However, you should consider that religion (and especially statues and icons) is simply a focusing point for the individual. People are capable of amazing feats of strength such as a woman lifting a car from off her child...because she focused...a concentrate effort. Don't degrade religion no matter your own belief or disbelief...remember it is sort of a protective blanket to many.

Is it possible that at some point in time there was one billion dollars cash in one place at one time in the U.S.? So you've never seen it. And the people who did weren't allowed to take pictures or tell people when it was happening. Is it not still possible?

In a court of law, the testimony of witnesses that corroborate without collusion is considered viable in the absence of hard evidence. People have written down their testimonies of God's intervention for thousands of years, and they have only been assembled into a single collection in the last millennium. The historicity and authenticity of the writings are above dispute. The only thing which remains in dispute is the subject of the writings. You claim the evidence is unreliable because YOU DON"T WANT TO ACCEPT SOMEONE ELSE'S TESTIMONY! Well, bad news. If you refuse to believe in God, He won't waste His time on you. You have more than enough 'evidence' at your disposal, it is YOUR CHOICE to disregard it.

I've seen the blind gain sight. I've seen the deaf hear the first sounds in their lives. I've heard first hand accounts of people with tumors keeping them from bending their necks have those tumors disappear in minutes. I've been around people who had limbs missing and have had those limbs re-grow over the course of just a few days.

The reason many people don't see this is because to see the miracles of God, you have to believe they are possible.

Matthew 13:58 "And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith."

Galatians 3:5 "Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?"

If a man did do miracles in the Name of God, wouldnt you speculate he was an illusionist.

The Bible is never been proven wrong by a historical stand point (i.e every man, city and event in the Bible has never been proven wrong, some people might not believe it, but it still may have existed) The Bible, written by different people, said that Jesus turned the water into wine, and raised the dead.

My English Lituature teacher who used to have one leg shorter than another got prayed upon and her leg grew inches in seconds.

You wont believe what happens even if it does. Belief in God requires faith!

God is relevent in everyday life, but when he does interfere you dont even care to notice or believe.

That is a very weak argument. The Bible actually explains why this does not happen. God said he would not interfere with the lives of man again after Noah. The Bible actually protects itself itself rather well against similar arguments. You should know your opponent before attacking. I'm not a Christian so don't use any brainwashing claims or other ludicrous things like that against me.

Thats a terrible tragedy. Its unhappy that anybody suffers atrocities like that. Its comprehensible that a individual ought to lose faith in God after listening to something like that. enable me ask you something nevertheless. would you assert that what handed off to her is comparable to the quantity of suffering of all of humankind in historic previous? Im speaking the Holcaust, slavery, segregation, wars, famine. Its all atrocious! So the genuine question isn't only why this lady had to bypass with the aid of this. the genuine question is. "Why has MANKIND had to bypass for the era of this and God take a seat idly with the aid of, no longer doing something to stop it?" "He shouldn't exist!" human beings immediately answer. Theres a concept. yet does it rule out all different opportunities? I wouldnt say that. no longer announcing you're incorrect, yet i think of its slightly hasty to speak approximately one women suffering and say theres no God, whilst human beings have been suffering for hundreds of years. The e book, "What Does The Bible rather teach" in financial disaster 11 solutions the question: "Why Does God enable suffering?" all people of Jehovahs Witnesses provides you with the e book, no value to you. it provides you with the Bibles answer on your question approximately the place God became into whilst this lady suffered. with any luck it relatively is going to interest you and make you delve even deeper into this subject remember.

All too true Mojo, all too true. The only thing that's even CLOSE to god intervening is when someone gets out of an accident alive - and that's hardly any evidence. In fact, why would God let the accident happen in the first place?
