Don't hit her nose or anywhere on her head. If you're going to "spank" her, spank her butt, and use something other than your hand. Allegedly, using your hand may make them afraid of your hand even when you raise it to pet them.

I always stressed my dog's toys to him/her when s/he started biting or chewing anything s/he shouldn't. Every time s/he bit in play, for example, I'd tell him/her "No! Get a toy!" Sounds silly, but they all learned like that.

There are also products you can buy in pet stores to spray on furniture and such that are supposed to be effective at stopping them from chewing wherever they're sprayed.

Good luck.

We have a puggle puppy that is teething on anything and everything. Hitting them really doesn't work and just makes you feel bad. Say NO in a loud voice and give him/her something appropriate. Try putting a wet wash cloth in the freezer - works for about five minutes. The best is a big ham bone that you can get at a grocery store - it will give you at least 30 minutes of peace. Good luck!

It is not effective. When the dog does something bad, in a firm voice say No and give her the proper thing to chew on.

Do not let her chew on inappropriate objects. Kennel her, rather then leaving her alone.

smacking them lightly isnt THAT bad, but your dog might bite back if he dosent like it. Filling a soda can with rocks, then shaking it when they have been bad works too. (at least for me). Here is some websites that could help...http://pets.yahoo.com/pets/dogs/bt/biting_&_chewing http://pets.yahoo.com/pets/dogs/bt/behavior_routine good luck

No. Get her a kong, and put peanut butter in it. That will keep her busy.
