NEVER EVER BITE A CHILD. As soon as you bite a child you teach them that biting is okay, mommy does it. If you bite them back it becomes a game and makes everything confusing for them. That would be just like telling your child not to hit as you slap them. They are going to follow examples.

To stop a child from biting you first need to make sure everyone dealing with the biting is responding the same way (teachers, older sibs, other parents, grandparents - whoever spends time with the child).

This is what you need to do:

1. Intervene by giving them something else to do if you see a bite coming on.

2. Firmly tell them "NO BITE!" and lavish attention on the child who was bitten.

3. Continue to respond in the same way EVERY time.

I had a child in my daycare that was biting and this is the method we would use. After talking with the parents several times they discovered that an older child was biting him back (making it a game/acceptable for him). The very first time mom replicated our actions by giving the bitten child attention was the very last time he has bitten.

I think the person who gave a three-step approach has it right - but PLEASE do not listen to the imbeciles who are telling you to bite a child. There is obviously something wrong with them - I mean, if a kid were whacking other kids on the arm with a baseball bat, would they say you should do the same back? It's idiotic and just plain wrong. Not to mention cruel. A young child has an excuse - they've never been taught another way. These responses are given by people who have no desire to spend the time it takes to model appropriate behavior. None.

You will have to repeatedly tell her "No Bite", "That hurts". Remove her from the situation and once the biten child is calmed down then have the biter giver her a kiss and say "Srry". If she cant say sorry then say it for her, and also if you can hear the baby crying that was biten poke the biter in the belly and say "You made her cry, that hurt".

If she is really bad about biting then try pressing her own arm into her teeth after she has biten someone so she knows how it feels. Don't bite her back because thats teaching her to bite, but by pressing her teeth into her arm you are showing her how it feels.

If the child is teething, buy a teething ring and toys that are "biteable." If the child is three or older, tell them it's not nice to bite people, and why would they want to hurt other people? Give an age-appropriate punishment if they continue.

He/She might or, are teething. My neice bit me all the time and now I have bite marks all over the place. So give he/she a teething toy and make sure they have it at all times. And you could go buy some teething medicine.

When I was younger my little sister use to pinch. Not just any pinch but she would get a tiny piece of skin, squeeze and twist. It HURT SO BAD! My Mom would tell her no, over and over. She didn't listen. Finally I told her that if she did it to me again (She's 3 years younger than me) I would do it back to her. Needless to say she did it again. And let me tell you after she felt what she was doing to everyone else she got the picture. I of course got in trouble but hey, it was worth it!

I say try to tell the child no. If it doesn't work after many times do it back. Don't hurt them, just show them how it feels. It may sound mean but sometimes it's the only way....

Bite little Fang back. A friend of mine did this with her little vampire and it worked. A sharp swat on the butt every time she does it might help too.

Pinch their nose closed. They'll need to come up for air and they'll stop biting. Not sure if that would be a good long-term fix, but it would stop them as soon as they do it.
