Adobe Photoshop takes a while to learn and you need to do lots of things to retouch a photo. The first step is to use a simpler image editing program like (1) what normally comes prepackaged in digital camera purchases (2) the $50 image editing programs avalable at the computer store.

I'm not really familiar with Adobe Photoshop since I only use the Roxio one. But somewhere in there, there should be brightness and contrast category things. Or exposure and saturation. Using those will make your picture look much better. If you can't find them, you should download another program.

The GIMP is very similar to Photoshop in the way it works and offers many similar features. Anything you learn about image editing in the GIMP will give you a head start if you later decide to buy photoshop. And of course it is free
