I had all mine pulled in the 11th grade. I was under IV sedation so didnt feel a thing, but I was sore for at least 2 months. really bad for about 2 weeks, and just sensitive for the remainder. no infection but you do have to keep your mouth really clean and make sure no food gets into the empty sockets. they should give you a special tool to rinse out the holes with. good luck.

What happens actually depends on what procedure and what type of anasthetics your doctor will be using.

Now, this might be different in your case since I'm from Canada but here are a few case senarios.

1) Local anasthesia in private office:

Now, I've never heard of someone getting them all out in one session this way but that's not to say that it isn't a possibility or a bad choice. In this case, they would only be freezing you (same as getting a cavity filled but the whole face). You'll be awake and aware of the whole procedure. You will feel lots of pulling and tugging during the operation but there should be no pain. If there is pain, you tell the dentist and they put more freezing.

2) Local anasthetics with concious sedation

This is similar to the first senario but usually in a medical center (rare risk of the sedation require more medical interventions). Concious sedation means that you'll still be awake and able to hear/talk/see and so on but more 'mellow'. Often the drugs used also creates amnesia (memory loss) so you might not remember the operation. The procedure should be without pain because of the freezing like #1.

3) General anasthetics

In this senario, you are put to sleep. Various methods exist to achieve this and it is up to the preferance of the anastheologist. More often then not, they also do some freezing while you are asleep so that it doesn't hurt as much when you wake up. This is also done in a medical center. Here, it is in the operation room of a hospital or a similar setting.

Hope this helps you in calming down. You really shouldn't be worried as it is a fairly simple procedure most of the time.

It's not really that bad, the thought is worse than the operation.
Usually, Dentist will numb your gum with an Oral Gel of some sort. That way, you won't feel the needle. Then he will inject the Pain killer into your gum. After your gum is numb, and you can't feel anything, he will pull the teeth.
It will take less than thirty seconds for each tooth. Then you are done.
You will be given a gauze to dry up any blood, and be told to gargle with some salt waters for the next few days.
You need to keep your mouth moist while the gum heals, so that you won't get what the call a dry socket. That can hurt, but rarely happens.
Good luck with it, it's not as bad as it sounds. In a few days, you will be back to normal, and feeling no pain whatsoever.

If you're going to an oral surgeon, or a dentist who has done this before, you'll be fine. Ask him/her if you will need an antibiotic, in the unlikely chance of an infection. He/she probably will prescribe a pain killer. You probably will go through a bag of ice. It will keep the swelling down, so you won't look like a berserk chipmunk.
If you are going to some drunk working out of his van in a Walmart parking lot, then RUN as fast as you can.
These things are never as bad as you fear. You'll be fine. Don't worry. I had 4 teeth pulled at 10 AM and was mowing lawn B4 noon. Let us know how you're doing in a few days.

Darling, your nervousness is completely natural and understandable. I have had mine out. The anesthetic puts you in a different world. I'm afraid I have to tell you something amazing: the actual extractions will be something you will miss. You won't be around to watch or feel or know about any of it. It'll be like something that happened five years ago. The people here on Yahoo! Answers who tell you it'll be a little sore afterward are telling you the truth. On a scale from one to ten, it will be about a three. And at his office, they will give you something to keep it that way or less, even. But do you know what? The relief you will feel inside from know it's over and healing and that you are done with the whole thing will more than make up for the little bit of soreness or uncomfortable feeling you will have for two days. It is not pain. It is just a little bit of soreness, definitely within your ability to bear. Try to get your mind focused on how great it's going to be to have it over with. I will be thinking of you, and so will others here on Yahoo! Answers. Anyone who has had it done knows it is pretty low key these days because it is so routine, but it is brand new to you and it is perfectly okay to be concerned and puzzled about the whole thing. I am telling you right here and right now, it is not going to be anywhere near as intense as you are thinking it might be. Let the anesthetic carry you away and be glad it is one more thing you have behind you. Sent to you with positive energies from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old.)

Well, for me it was not as bad as everyone said it would be. Once the doc numbs your mouth, it should be fine. If u still feel pain after the novacaine, be sure to let the doc know so he can give u more. I ended up having three injections so that I would feel nothing. Afterwards keep ur mouth shut as much as possible and u should be fine.

They might put some gas on you if you want so you will relax plus the anestesy will reduce or eliminate the pain while the surgery is being done. Then you might just feel a little soar but it will go away. GOOD LUCK:D

Pain, squishy uncomfortable sloshing, some pulling and poking, swollen jaws and dribble, spitting, swallowing, wincing and whining and spurts of blood and bits of skin.

Unless you get knocked out? Some people are just gluttons for punishment and some don't like sweet air (like me) and have to suffer.

Look, it sux no matter how your twist it, what do you want me to say? It will be a trip to willie wonka's chocolate factory and Johnny Depp will be waiting there naked and covered in chocolate?

Well it ain't. Sorry!

Don't be scared. The surgery itself will be relatively painless. You will have some soreness for a day or two following. It's really going to be OK.
