But Jesus did it all the time. Most of his parables involved saying that God is like a good shepherd, like that good master, like a good father. We are instructed to pray to "Our Father--" And every preacher's favorite sermon is the Prodigal Son. Don't they always end it by saying "God is like THAT GOOD FATHER,if you return to his good graces he will love and forgive you."
But did you ever hear one say,"But if you don't return to him and ask forgiveness, he will will find you and subject you to eternal pain and torment, like A BRUTAL, SADISTIC FATHER."
Isn't the second statement just as true as the first?
Why don't you ever hear that in church?

I thank you fro your replies, (except for a couple of rather nasty ones, which proves my point that some people would rather not think too hard about their religion), but the question remains unanswered.

Sure Christians say that god cannot be compared to man, but they always lend him human characteristics. They always put limits on their own god, by saying he cannot forgive if you don't ask for it.
They put limits on their god by saying that he gets angry and so he does things out of spite. But if he's so perfect why would he feel such an imperfect and human emotion, that is so useless to him? Why wouldn't he have endless patience?
You don't hear it in church because cults don't tend to point out their own flaws in logic, that would make the flock stray.

You must be the product of a legalistic upbringing like I was. I used to think that the second statement was more true than anything else. That God was venegful and was waiting for me to mess up so He could take everything away from me. I became a Christian to escape hell. It hasn't been until the last two years that I have learned that God is nothing like that at all. God desires a relationship. He wants us to question Him. He wants our love because we want to give it to Him. The hellfire and brimstone primative baptist preachers of old were more wrapped up in the legalism in the Bible than the big picture - that God is our heavenly father who does love us and desires a relationship with us. They focused on the aspect of a father that punishes his children. My God is not like that. The God I really know is not vengeful. The God I know forgives me for the heinous things that I did in a time when I didn't believe in Him or know Him at all. He has never taken anything away from me; He never made me suffer for disobeying or displeasing me. I am very sorry that you have this view of God. The truth of the matter is, God doesn't only love us IF we return to his good graces. He loves us no matter what - sin laden or not.

You might have heard someone say that but its not in the Bible (God's word) and that's not true.
I've never heard that in church. Maybe you should go to a different one.
Jesus compared God to a father because no one would understand him comparing God to anything else but a human.
You can only define something in terms which the person will understand.
In reality, you can't define him. But one has to, to create some sort of understanding.
Stop spending your entire day trying to find flaws in Christianity.

The Bible said that man was made in God's image, not that God was made in our image. Jesus was part God and part man. But God is not part man.
The story of the Prodigal Son is that the son was lost, meaning he left his father, but when he returned, he took back up where he left off. He was lost, but when he returned he was saved. It is like that, we get lost, off our path you might say, but when we return to God and ask for forgiveness and back with Him, we are forgiven and saved.
Revelations is talking about the end of time and there is no question about what happens to sinners and those who reject Jesus and God. They go to Hell.

Not comparing God to man means that humans have no right to judge or question God since God is not subject to human standards. It doesn't mean that you can't try to explain God in terms of parables or analogies to gain a clearer understanding.

The question wreaks of lack of information on the concern being stated. briefly, if someone is going to the well being care service and the well being care service knows what the region is then it really is clear that it became understood through men. even with the undeniable fact that, in case you want to imagine about something evaluate the actual undeniable truth that once evolutionists do not understand the way something befell they say it took billions of years. once upon a time, lengthy earlier. isn't that the way fairy memories commence? I convey regret to others for my sarcastic answer even with the undeniable fact that the question became sarcastic to commence with.

No, as a strict and holy and sad father whose children decide to not accepthim.
And yes you hear that God is a Just and Holy God, who can not stand sin, and that only, and ONLY though Christ is that sin cleansed and covered.
that is about as clear as it gets,

man resembles god in everything but sin. We are created to love, respect, care, etc. Our personality is similar to God's, only his is infinite> God is our father, and we are his children. God is pure spirit, while we are flesh and spirit>

By rejecting him you are choosing your own fate. The choice is clear and simple. If you want your inheritance and want to enjoy your Father's home you need to repent and come home to him of your own choice. He will not force the choice on you. Don't try to lay your poor choice on Him.

I don't know... According to Christians, men were created in God's image, not only physically, but spiritually too.
