Does prayer work? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler, but God did nothing and 30 million+ died. Either God is heartless, powerless, both, or does not exist at all.

First, you can't "kidnap" a plane. A plane can be hijacked, a person can be kidnapped.
Second, God has nothing to do with what happens here. God set this whole universe in motion and is now sitting back in his lazy boy chair, shaking his head in disbelief. Earthquakes happen, bub. Tsunamis follow earthquakes if they happen in the ocean. People who overpopulate the coast will die when the wave hits.
Those planes were hijacked for a reason. There is a reason why the people in the Middle East are willing to sacrifice their lives in order to attempt to balance the scales a bit. America installed the Saudi Government, the Iraqi (hussein's) Government, the old Lebanese government, even the Taliban. Read your history. The people in the Middle East have been suffering for decades because our meddlings in their region. God has nothing to do with any of this.
Quit your juvenile whining. Death is a part of life and is not bad. People die all the time. If we didn't, the planet would have been destroyed a long time ago.
God doesn't send strokes. A lifetime of bad behavior sends a stroke.

If you believe there is a god then you know that all things happen for a reason. On the other hand I believe in the power of the universe and respect mother earth. Our planet is going to experience changes and there is very little we can do about it, our mis-use of the planet has already started to be realized by millions. We are a very small part of this planet. It is unfortunate that so many humans have died at the hands of terrorists, but humans have been killing each other since the beginning of humankind, only difference is that now we can see and experience the killing through the media and computers and what ever else is available to us. Before the hipe of Christianity took root, and the falsehood that we are sinners and will go to hell if we don't behave, humans looked to the spirit of something that made these things happen, the word GOD had no meaning to anyone. the human cycle is birth, death, and rebirth, we all have to experience it, I don't believe there is any way out of that. I believe in birth, death and rebirth and that it happens every season. Nature has taught us that, mother earth has taught us that. Why would only humans be saved by a god and not the other creatures of the universe. I believe the fact is that we humans consider ourselves so much better that anything else mother earth created that some human came up with the idea of a god who would look after us only and protect us only, and so everyone said yeah, that's want i want. Is that not very foolish and selfish?i believe it is!

I may be a minister, but I don't consider myself to be one of those "religious people" you refer to. It's true that sometimes terrible things happen. History is a perfect example. Check any high school text and you'll find it reads more like a bad soap than a history lesson. That's because it isn't God who is responsible for things like 9/11. The reason for that, my friend, is people. People and a little thing called prejudice. God may have made us (depending on what you believe), but he gave us the freedom to choose how we live our lives. And, well, some people just choose badly. It isn't really God's purpose to stop us from killing each other. If we had listened to him to begin with, we wouldn't be killing each other in the first place.
As far as the tsunami goes, well...the only thing I can say is that a great deal of those people chose to be there. I know that doesn't make it any better, but you have to look at the broader picture. Many of the things that happen to humans is the result of what we do to ourselves, not what God expects of us. God isn't a babysitter, he's a role model. Some people just choose not to follow.
And, by the way...cyber-swearing is in such poor taste. You asked for people's OPINIONS. If you really want to know the answer, ask Him yourself.
Has this suddenly become a forum for faith-bashing? I believe you may want to take a step back and determine exactly who it is that you're really mad at. This is a PG site, man. My kids see this stuff.

Where did you get the idea that God would stop man's free will? Isn't that what they call "free will"? When someone takes command of a several jet planes and flies them into tall buildings? And where did you get the idea that God would suspend the laws of nature by stopping a tsunami that was the result of an earthquake? I don't quite understand how you and others like you can say there is no GOD but when something monstrous happens you ask WHERE WAS GOD? Do you want to know where God was? God was the same place He was on the day He watched His only son die on a cross. Crucified by evil men who had free will. If God wouldn't stop man's free will on that day can you think of any other day that would have compared for HIM?
No imagination when it comes to free will. Man makes his own bed and when it happens we have to sleep in it. Our humanity is found lacking in the eyes of God. We kill for no apparant reason and we destroy each other for philosophical differences. But that is the way it has always been.
No imagination----just common sense. It is a foundational belief for me----FREE WILL!!! Not robots or automatons. JUST FREE WILL....and of course -----the laws of nature.
I live in south Louisiana where we are still finding bodies after Hurricane Katrina. I don't know loads of folks who are asking WHERE WAS GOD???? Cos folks down here know where HE was......busy answering prayers......AS HE ALWAYS IS!!!!
Thanks for asking the question.

YOU, were the ones that wanted to know
the difference from right or wrong.
You asked for autonomy, when God offered
His help, or whenever He sent Hi's messengers.
You all fought for YOUR "freedom" to
CHOOSE...
YOU all claimed that the planet wasn't really
yours, unless YOU all had complete control.
YOU have all "conveniently" forgotten,
that EVERYTHING that happens, is YOUR
very own responsibility.
When people are tortured or killed,
WE are the ones who take your soul
away, so that YOU don't really suffer.
But we do let you watch...
Not so YOU will see what pain and misfortune has befallen on you.
But for you to learn the ways of the world,
YOU all claim to own.
God is ALL merciful, not a spiteful Father.
Whoever makes HIM to be that, speaks
not of the Father.
He wants us all to learn by our own merits.
He also knows, that if He gave us everything, we would NEVER appreciate what we have.
Those souls who perished in both disasters,
were being waited on, by HIS merciful
angels, HIS true, unquestioning servants.
They never really suffered, for their true selves, were already spectators.
Now you'll say, oh, but people are tortured;
They can scream, writhe in pain, etc.
Yet no harm will come to them, for the ALL
merciful Father, and His merciful and Divine
beings, are all around, to confort YOU.
YOU, and ALL your loved ones.
Anger, hurt, and even hate, are normal
for anyone to experience.
You asked a question, and here it's the answer.
I am NOT all knowing. But I am a faithful
servant. So humble, that humans are far
more valuable, than I'll ever be.
I am thankful, to serve HIM, and YOU...
Be not afraid. Any more questions ?
We are living amongst you all,
spiritually, and incarnated too.
God bless you my friend, I feel your pain.
I share your pain, YOU, will never be alone...

I would like to start with this: I am not a religion type of guy. Now, I would like to say that I believe this life to be a struggle and that there are many risks that are taken on almost every breath of our time here...in this existence. Perhaps we are luck to be without any (supposed) pain for even a second of our existence, and that dying from whatever catastrophy is just a matter of time...and of course that is the case; that we all do die. God is "taking care" of us in that he (notice, no capitalization) in that he, the "prime mover" did move and therefore gave us a chance. I do not believe that he/she/it sits up on high deciding what happens with this place called reality. He's here, he is this place, and he is the tragedies and miracles/chances that make up our perception... there's no separation. People take care of themselves to a point..and then there's the nature, such as air and water, that sustains people too.
So, what I guess I am saying is: count your blessings, not your curses. And yes, I think that our blessings and curses are about equal, and that we, as people, are blessed and cursed to existing.

We have free will. People believe in God because of a spiritual inner peace they get. It is a feeling I can't describe. It is like a blanket, or a light in a fire storm. It is a new world.
The Truth is, you can't realize the Higher Being exists without opening your mind. Is it that you are arrogant?....
If we proved there was a God, would you worship him?
Do you think human being are the smartest beings in and out of existence? Do you think your life is for not cause? do you know you're going to submit to the Creator anyway. Are you aware you were created?
Don't perceive religion through others, if i had, i would have never believed in God. Get my drift? He's not a man in the sky. he's something science can express, nor can our physical senses. He' greater than you can imagine. Keep searching, it isn't that religion is foolish, its just that humans are foolish.

Using the Tsunami for an example .... if you're actually, REALLY, interested, and not just looking to bash people you don't agree with ---- God did nothing, because all that was happening is what should have happened according to the physical laws of our existence as established during creation and evolution (yes... I believe in both; that's only logical). The bad part comes when you examine the lives of all the people who died .... did they lead a worthwhile life, or give in to greed and selfishness so they, probably like you, could live life like they wanted with little concern for what was good for those around them.

God is not saving people from storms and evil man. He has made away for all to go to a better place when they die. The Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins. Believe and trust in that and you to can be saved. Why don't you blame Satan instead of God, He is the prince and power of the air. He was the one that deceived man kind and because of that all men are sinners. Ephesians 2: 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Romans 5: 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

We all must die some day. You must be a very young person, or must have had a pretty comfy life.... to think that death is the worst thing that could happen to a person.
God has never promised that life will be easy, and when it is very hard, then sometimes getting out of it is a blessing.
We are here on earth to learn something, my friend.
How we deal with the evil, pain and suffering-- which is a part of life-- determines how ready we are for the afterlife.
