I am trying to get together a support group for the mentally ill. You hear of all kinds of support groups for loved ones who care for the mentally ill, but I have a mental disorder, and I would love to get a group going. I live an hour away from the cities. Is there a social worker that would be available to volunteer their time, twice a month. I am going out on a whim here. People think that if you are mentally ill, you are not capable of doing much. That is not true, and it is even harder for us to carry the burden of knowing we are mentally ill. Does anyone have advice on how I would go about starting a group, and how to bring people aware? Thanks...

I live an hour away from the cities as well and I suffer from anxiety attacks. They are much better now but I know where you are coming from. Altho, when my panic started I wasn't able to do much. Didn't even want to leave my house. If you need support e-mail me and feel better.

I don't live anywhere near MN but here is a website I think you should try NoLongerLonely.com. My son uses it and he really likes it. I realize it's not a support group, but just thought you might want to check it out.
