Words of advice...............you should never go into a relationship trying to change the other person or for that matter asking him to change for you, its not going to work. If this person is the person you want for you then its time you move on. Besides men in jail say what they think you want to hear. Believe me its a whole other story when they get out.

Run and change your address. Do not contact him, unless there are kids involved. There is nothing in this for you but heartbreak; anyone who hears that you are wrapped up with a prison boyfriend (employer, new friends, friends of friends) will associate you - however unfairly - with his behavior.
As far as I can tell, he already betrayed you by not changing for you. That's because people can't change for another, but only for themselves. He already broke his pact with you - just formalize it by sending him a goodbye note with the fact you don't wish to hear or see from him any more. He'll be a millstone around your neck. It's not his first offense, obviously......note that and think about what 20 years more of this would do to your life.

If he is serious to want to change then tell him if he doesn't show you he's trying your gonna have to break it off with him. My husband was in prison before we met, and he tells me of all the bad things he has done before, but now he is a real good guy, even if everyone else doesn't want to past his past. Sometimes people will change if they find something worth changin for.....

This is really up too you, if you love him and you want to put your trust in him then go for it. However, If he tells you that he is going to change for you and he keeps on doing the same things over and over then you need to find a man that you can have a future with...
There is no future with a man who keeps going back to jail...

when people are in jail they think they can say and do all these wonderful things and actually live up to them, but when they get out reality hits, and their back to their old ways.....if someone wants to change they need to do it for themselves because they want to change.....unfortunately changing for someone else simply inst enough

Seems like he has not changed. So dump him and go find someone that will treat you with the respect that you deserve,

First of all he should change for his-self. and unless you want to keep going threw the same thing over and over. You need to make the change and put your foot down. You are worth more and deserve more. Better yourself and don't let him bring you down with him. Good Luck.
