it doesn't hurt at all. for a basic tongue piercing, it goes right inbetween these 2 muscles. it's slides right through.

the clamp hurts a little, but if you go to a good piercer, then you can barely notice it.

oral piercings heal super quick. my aftercare was basically - get a bottle of biotene. i put in a capful for every 4oz of water. after you eat or drink anything (besides water) rinse with that.
and if you want, buy some glyoxide and in the morning after you brush your teeth, put a drop or two on the piercing. it'll foam up. leave it there a minute or so and rinse.

also, you may want to get a tongue scraper/cleaner. it's hard to brush your tongue cause it's sore, so that will help keep it clean.

oh and suck on ice chips till it's not swollen anymore.

You won't die. It'll hurt, unless they use novacaine. It's a lot like piercing your ears. Except afterwards your tongue swells up and you'll talk funny and it'll be hard to eat. As long as the person pierces it in the correct spot of the tongue and if you follow the directions they give you. Then you should'nt get an infection

Personally, I have never had that done. I know someone who has and she said she wouldn't do it again. You do have to be careful about infection. Your mouth is full of bacteria, and it is possible to get an infection. The comment about biting your tongue it true. Plus it swells up and you can't eat for a couple of days. Try to think ahead. Many jobs require you to take the thing out of your mouth. Even the clear ones can be seen. Do you want to do something professional? Will you still want it in 30 years? Just some things to think about.

It's quite rare to get an infection in a tongue piercing...this is a muscle and get plenty of blood flow (white blood cells will kill off bacteria and any start of infection-unless your really nasty). yes it does hurt but only about as bad as biting your tongue...like most everyone has said. obviously if you get this piercing follow your piercers advice not your friends!
