My family says yes. I took the test, & tomorrow I will see the results. Should I blame myself if I am? Is it really my fault or just a misfortune?

No....it is not your fault. Diabetes is inherited. It is in your genes. If it runs in your family, you should be checked often. If it does not run in the family, you are okay.

Diabetes can develop over time.It can be caused by eating poorly or not taking care of yourself,it also can be inherited. You should do some research ask around you family your grandma or your aunts and uncles and see if it has ran in your family in the past.If it does run in your family,it doesnt mean that you will have it but it makes your risk of having it or contracting it later in life higher. You should really check into your family history tho,see if there is a history of diabetes. If not, then it could be poor eating habits although if you are you will really have to watch your diet.Good luck with that.

A persons diet can cause them to become diabetic if you eat a lot of sugar than you could be at fault. People that eat a lot of sugar make their blood sugar levels very high and that can cause you to become diabetic. If you are younger which I'm thinking that you are, you could have had it from the start of life and it is just now showing. There are two types of diabeties one where you have to give yourself insulin because your body doesn't produce it or enough of it and there is one where you just need to control your diet to control the diabeties. The first type people have from birth and is no one's fault and the second you get when you are older adult ages and this one is caused by poor diet. This one is because of the person. Hope this helps you out. There are a lot of websites where you can read about diabeties. www.webmd.com would be one of the best. I use it a lot.

It depends on which type of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is mostly genetic and isn't influenced much by your lifestyle. Type 2 diabetes is also genetic but can more easily be prevented by living a healthier lifestyle. Either way you should not blame yourself. If you do have diabetes there is nothing you can do about it now except learn as much as you can and control it as effectively as possible.

Your family sounds a little cruel. It wouldn't necessarily be your fault. Diabetes is hereditary and if someone in your family has it like your parents or grandparents you could contract it just by genetics. Hopefully you don't have this and if you do there are ways to control it with diet and exercise. Good Luck!

type 2 diabetes in increased in individuals who are overweight, and have poor eating habits. it is not really "your fault" if you have an endrocrine system issue, or other systemic problem related to it. Your family may be a bit insensitive there. i would say that you need to educate yourself and if you are a poor eater or overweight. you must change your habits.

I am a type 1 diabetic and there was nothing i could do abut my diabetes.
my pancreas simply does not function.

Tell your family to shut the h*ll up, because diabetes can be genetic, and therefore not your fault at all. Ask your doctor about it, he'll be glad to tell you.
