They are spelled the same yet are pronounced completely different. Why is that?

Why is NUT (Egyptian Goddess) spelled the same as nut (from a tree), yet NUT is pronounced "Noot"?

Different languages--different pronunciations.

Job isn't an English name, and job is an English word that came way wayyyy later. That's all I can really say, I've never really studied the history of the "Job" (as in the book of Job, not employment)

For the same reason that Bill (name) and bill (a statement of charges) is spelled the same. They are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings.
