Why was there lightning and thunder? Why did the sun, moon, and stars apparently go around the Earth? Why did someone get sick and die? Why did anything happen? Well, obviously, God did it. If a person doesn’t know how something works or why something happened, they can say, “God did it.” This is known as the “god of the gaps,” or the “argument from ignorance,” and it is at the heart of the conflict between science and religion. Science looks for natural causes, while religion looks for supernatural causes. Science is steadily winning, because as we understand more and more about the universe, the gap where God might function grows smaller and smaller. Every time we learn more, God has less room to operate. When we learned what caused the sun to apparently move across the sky, there was no need for the Greek god Helios and his chariot. When we understood what caused lightning, there was no need for the Greek god Zeus, the Roman god Jupiter, or the Norse god Thor.

Sorry, I clicked the "Answer this question" button before I realized that there wasn't a question. I'll take the 10 points, though.

Kind of, but not quite.

Science has drawn a pretty accurate picture of the universe, all the way down to a trillionth of a trillionth of a second after the Big Bang, but has trouble explaining where exactly it came from.

Biologists have used the theory of evolution for a century now to explain species diversity, but can't seem to explain why the fossil record shows that new species appeared in clumps and events, not progressively over time. They also shriek with pride when being able to build a particular chemical from "primordial soup", but fail to mention that the odds are staggering that this would create plants and birds and people within a few billion years by chance.

It's simply not a cut-and-dry explanation as the science book says. And that's fine - science is a process of searching for the answers, so continue the search!

Who designed the so-called "science" in your world? Facts of science are just how much people have found out about how the world works. That still doesn't account for how or when these facts were made so. Maybe people back then were ahead of us in some ways. They didn't try to explain every little thing. They just understood that the world works a certain way because that is the way it was designed. I like to understand things as well. I plan on becoming a biologist, however I don't believe that becoming self-righteous about my discoveries is going to help mankind's progression. The fact of the matter is that no matter how much we know we can't know everything. We can't control everything. You can't know when you're going to die. You can't know whom you will meet and love in your life. You can't know what personalities and talents your children will have. Oh sure you can use the science of genetics to guess but you truly have no idea what your little baby will be one day. You don't know the person they will open up into. There are certain things in life that are completely out of our grasp. I love science because the more I see how complex and awesomely amazing everything in this world is the more I believe that it was designed by an awesomely amazing person. Everything has order. Everything has a place. Everything is in proportion. It all is designed. How can something like the golden ratio happen spontaneously. This earth was designed so specially that you don't even realize it. Yes there is evolution. Yes there are chemical equations, and laws that can explain so much of what is around us but all these things were designed TO design our earth. A sequence of changes took place to get the modern day elephant, the modern day human. Creatures were designed step-by-step, piece-by-piece. Science named this process evolution which is fine but why can't we just accept that evolution isn't just something that happened. Nothing just happened. Who or what holds the secrets of the world? Why do we have to try to solve anything? Why is there so much to know? Why can't we just see that there is something bigger than us out there? If we were the big ones in charge we would know everything. And who wants to believe that we're just spinning around the universe all on our own. That everything is out of control and that the only people who care about us (mom, dad, wife, husband) are as helpless as we are in the grand scheme of things. Who wants to believe that we don't have a soul or a purpose and once we die we simply seize to exist. That we are no more than dogs, rats, fish, any other animal. That can't be true. Science figures stuff out that's great. Now figure out the biggest thing of all. That no matter what we know, we are completely minuet in the magnificence of this world.

compared to you, i do not position self belief in a disjuncture between technology and the mythology of religion. in very truth, as we study extra, be it contained in the fields of string concept or quantum mechanics, the further we question the mandatory underpinnings of the universe. the way it got here to be and why it applications the way that it does. as an get mutually... once the atom became split, Einstein stated that if he were to stay his existence throughout back, he would study para-psychology really than physics and mathematics. And why did he make the type of fact? because he envisioned that a split atom would produce 2 halves of a similar element. 2 halves of one atom. really, the split atom created 2 fullyyt diverse entities. 2 "new" issues. From this he got here to understand that lets split the atom into infinity and in no way come to an end. And alongside a similar lines... we are learning that this so stated as mythology of the previous is being shown through technology. An get mutually of which will be the artwork of Hubble. His maximum well-known discovery being that the Universe is increasing. This became first presented to our interest through the Vedic Seers. They defined it contained in the mythological tale of Vishnu dreaming the international. for this reason, what i'm searching so appealing about the technology of our modern-day international is the way it really is taking section in into what became defined in mythology. both can coexist if all of us can get previous our own conception equipment biases.

there is only 1 God. He made the sun, moon and earth. it was His decisoin that these move, in order to distinguish night from day. scientists want a tangible reason...something they can see or feel. can you touch air? can you breathe without it? this is a centuries old debate that will last long after we are gone. answer this? how did you get here? and i don't mean yahoo answers. your mom? her mom? who brought us to life originally? these 'alleged' gods: roman, norse...whatever. they were called gods because they 'seemed' to have power. no one has the power to control the earth, the seas...nothing...except God. do not rip me a new one..i am not a church going fanatic. i just have this opinion. opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

All religions are man made -God is real
and they are made so that man can relate in a mortal way to God.

God is of infinite intelligence
God is Omniscient
God is Omnipresent.
God is not a person nor persons he does not have a human form nor a human way of thinking.

Now man has several languages and cultures and man has several levels of intelligence and civilization. We have people still living in caves and eating dung, and we have people with Ipods and balckberries and laptops.

Now do think Infinite intelligence would make only one religion to reach all of us- over thousands of years ., do you think God would attempt to have a very specific message or a broad based message that anyone can undertsand and assimilate.?

Love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Love God and acknowlege him in all things.

simple , easy, and something a caveman can use.

Think about it, use your brain.....

hope this helps

I don't think you actually asked a question, but you did voice an interesting problem for people of faith...like me. I am operating on a faith based lifestyle due to my upbringing. Now it is a conscious choice. Principles of science confuse me when I see the conflicts with faith, but I believe many scientists preserve their faith and that encourages me.

Just the observation that things exist, that there is a creation, is a proof of God. You can't have a creation without a creator. God is the great Creator.
