I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...
I was 8 weeks pregnant and started spotting the day I was scheduled for my check-up, so I went to my regular Ob/Gyn, and he did an ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. He said I'd probably lose the baby over the next couple days, and that is what happened -- I had a miscarriage the next day. That baby would be having her/his 12th birthday this month...
I am sorry, but it is very likely that the E.R. staff were correct, with no heartbeat, the fetus will not grow. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to make the heart start beating. It's a difficult thing to go through, but in the long run, you may well see that all things really do happen for a reason -- which I can now see when I look back.
I recommend calling your regular obstetrician first thing in the morning and getting in there as soon as you can to confirm what the E.R. staff diagnosed. If the private doctor's findings are the same, then it is up to you whether to have a procedure or to allow your body to naturally pass the tissues. Your Dr. will help you make that decision based on your own health status.
I hope the E.R. Docs were wrong, and that you're own Dr. finds a heartbeat. I will be a realist and add that it is not likely , but I will pray for you...

I have been in your situation before and they found a heartbeat but if they cannot find a heartbeat there is not really anything that can be done. It sounds like you are miscarrying and that means that there was something wrong with the baby that would keep it from surviving in the world. Your baby is in a better place right now, anyway.
If it would make you feel better go to a doctor that specializes in obstetrics, they might be able to know what is happening better than any regular ER doctor.

Sweetie, I'm sorry but if your baby has no heartbeat there is nothing you can do to fix that. You can have them check with an u/s or with a doppler and make certain that there really is no heartbeat. If not, then you will probably be expecting a miscarriage. Talk to your caregiver and see what you should do. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry! You really need to get it out of you if there is no heartbeat because chances are you have miscarried. I know it's easy for me to say because I'm not in your shoes but you don't want to risk your own life. You can always try again. Unfortunately bad things like this occur.
Good luck!

All of these answers seem really good. If there is no heart beat, then the baby may be gone for good reason. Try again and again until all works out well. Get good prenatal care.

Man does not have the final say so. If it is GOD's will, the heartbeat will be heard. Go get a second opinion after you have talked with GOD.

The doctors are the experts. You can get a second opinion, but they don't advise terminating a pregnancy without good cause. Listen to them. Don't be afraid to ask questions on what the options are, but listen to what they say.

if you are bleeding and your baby has no heart beat that is a sign of a miscarriage. you are bleeding because your body is trying to basically remove the baby from your womb.
