Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

FROM A HARDWARE PERSPECTIVE THE BEST AND MOST COST EFFECTIVE POSSIBLE UPGRADE (IN GENERAL) IS THE ADDITION OF MORE MEMORY (RAM).

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!

Very important - set a system restore with date and a note that everything is o.k. Then, if something gets messed up in the future, you have something to return to.

Regularly, if not daily, run Yahoo's anti-spyware on the Yahoo toolbar. Less than 1 1/2 min.

Periodically, open My Computer
right-click on C:
click Properties, Tools
run an error check

From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline)

From Start
Programs
Accessories
System Tools
run a Disk Cleanup

After all this, from Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, run a defrag

Last but not least, from Start, Run -- type ipconfig renew
(that's ipconfig space renew)

You should also have a good antivirus program like McAfee or Norton.

It sounds like a lot, but believe me, it's not as time consuming or aggravating as trying to straighten things out.

Download Adaware, run it regularly.
Download Spyware Blaster, run it regularly.
Download AVG Antivirus, run it regularly.
Use Pop up Blockers.

Run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag every week or two.

Don't download anything else. heh. Windows uses a very old method of keeping track of files called a "registry" it's extremely inefficient and causes a great deal of slow-down when you've been downloading thousands of programs over the course of a year or two. So pick carefully what you want on your hard drive, and don't be frivolous.

You can also use something like System Mechanic or Registry First Aid to periodically clear old entries out of the Registry.

Don't install any programs that run all the time.

Honestly, you sound like a feminine hygiene commercial.

you can start by using Firefox to browse the internet instead of internet explorer. it is less prone to spyware, and adware and viruses. good luck...i know you'll get more advice.
