Okay, here we go. If you are going for maximum length by December, here are some things to try.
Use gentle products. Consider using cone-free products. Cones just build up, causing your hair to dry out and look glued. If you love cones, clarify your hair regularly to remove buildup.
Use plenty of conditioner. Use a good leave in.
Blot, don't rub your hair when drying in a towel. Comb with a wide tooth seamless comb. Air dry. Always. Damp bunning, where you bun your hair damp will help hold moisture in your hair longer, giving it extra moisture. Consider using a light weight oil, such as jojoba pre and post washing.
Use a boar bristle brush, but never, never, never on wet hair.
Brushing wet hair stretches and breaks it. Don't let your hairstylist use a brush on your wet hair, either! They should know better!
Protect your hair. Wear it in updos fastened with hairsafe ties, clips and pins. Hairsticks and Ficcares are good choices. Braid for bed. Use a satin pillowcase to reduce friction. Don't wear your hair down in the wind.
Stay away from heat. No blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons or hot rollers. These just damage your hair, leading to breakage and not seeing growth at your ends.
Trim as little as possible. Stylists will tell you to trim 1/2" every six to eight weeks. Assuming an average 1/2" a month growth rate, if you do that, you will not see much growth. Cutting does not make your hair longer, just shorter!
If you hair needs a trim, take off as little as humanly possible to take care of splits and keep your hemline even and nice. Consider micro-trims, of 1/4" or less and dusting, where so little is trimmed, the hair on the floor looks like dust. And only trim if your hair really needs it. You do not have to stick to a schedual.
If you have a few splits, just find them and snip them with very sharp scissors. Cut about 1/2" above the split, straight across. This is called Search and Destroy. Do it about once a month.
Seek out and find a good long hair care board. They are full of information on the care and feeding and growing of long, beautiful hair.
Good luck with your hair. I HTH.

My hair grows about an 1/2 to 1 inch each month. I have found that brushing increases the speed that my hair grows. I think that it has something to do with stimulating the scalp and increasing blood flow to the follicles. I do not know about braiding it in the back when you sleep. I find that if I brush too hard and while it is wet, it thins my hair because it stretches and breaks the weaker strands. So, combing when wet is best and brushing often helps make it grow -- for me at least.

Here are some natural tips to faster hair growth. First, when shampooing gently massage the very top of your hair, where the roots are; this helps the growth of the hair starting from the roots. Also, use an organic shampoo that is all natural (which is healthier for your hair), such as Ginesis Natural Shampoo. It cost about $11.50 but is worth it because it has natural & high quality ingredients that heal your hair and healthy hair grows quicker. Check it out on the net.

Congrat's on your engagement! Stimulate your scalp. Good blood flow will help stimulate the hair follicle and produce healthier hair. Massage your scalp and give yourself a good hot conditioning treatment under a dryer once a week. If you don't have a portable hairdryer (like the one grandma used) use a moist hot towel. Also keeping just the dead ends cut off will help the hair from breaking off. There are also good stimulating shampoos to get like Tea tree by Paul Mitchell or Nioxin. You should be able to get them at a good salon that sells retail. Best of luck with everything.
