Telugu, spoken in the State of Andhra Pradesh, India, was called the' Italian of the east' by English Scholers like Bishop Caldwel, C.P. Brown and others.

The reasons are the similarities in the mellifluous nature of the spoken language, words in both languages end in vowels (Kannada, another south Indian language, also has words ending in vowels, more than telugu for that matter, but does not sound as good as Telugu when spoken)
