OMG! I tried this one time and it did NOT work. Maybe you will have better luck. What happened to us is the vodka kept filling the hole really quickly and overflowing and then we had to keep taking it out and waiting for the watermelon to absorb it. Then later the pieces near the hole were pretty much straight vodka and the rest were not spiked at all. So then we ended up trying to make a blender drink and it WAS NOT good. So anyway - here are some directions (a little better than what we did, I don't think it was deep enough); good luck!
Cut a plug from the watermelon about 2-inches deep and the shape of the bottle opening. (I held the cap against the melon and traced it with the knife to get the exact size the cut should be) Save the plug (rind) that you cut out. Turn the bottle (carefully and slow) upside down and stick it in the melon. Push it down tight. Let it drain in. If your melon takes the vodka fairly fast, you can push the plug back in. Also do this if you want to transport it. If not eaten in 2 days will become very mushy.

More than one melon. Use two for a whole bottle if that is the only type of melon you're going to use. Get a HUGE bowl. Chop up the melon into 3 inch cubes and then pour the vodka over it and let it sit a while like 6 hours or so - covered. Some people let it sit overnight. The more melon you use the less harsh the taste of the liquor will be.
Or use the hole in the top of the melon method, but we always chopped up watermelon, honey dew and cantaloupe for our hunchpunch and let it soak that way.

cut a hole in the top of the melon the size of the mouth of the bottle, stick it in and leave it to drain on it's own. It'll slowly filter down into the melon.
You can also make "watermelon punch" by cutting a small hole in the bottom of the melon as well, suspending it over a bowl and letting it drip into it. By the third bottle you'll start to get alcohol comeing out making it an alcoholic punch. (The alcohol "forces" the natural juice out the bottom as you pour it in the top)

Getting the vodka into the watermelon is the easy part. Putting the bottle in is really unsafe and very hard to do.

Debbi P has done it before my answer is the same. It works. Let the bottle in the hole upside down and just wait. Use 100 proof, it works better.

Cut a hole in one end. Pour the bottle of (I prefer rum) vodka into the hole, cap and let sit in the refrigerator overnight.
