I know I am a good person. People tell me all of the time.

I can read peoples faces, and know what their fears are from the first minute I speak with them.

I allay their fears, and put their minds at ease. This is all without reading the bible.

I do not believe in god. I believe in good. I pray to the good, I do the good work, I say thank good it's friday. I have neglected god my entire life, because studying the bible will take away my time from doing good.

I believe in science. I don't believe in pseudoscience that makes false claims that are unprovable. Same as I do not believe in god, I don't believe in the unprovable stories.

I feel good within me. I get visions of doing even more good. I do not believe in god.

Can I read the STORIES in the bible, and be a gooder person? I want to do more good, and I want to be better at doing good.

What are the best verses to read, for me to follow, if I want to do good, without having to believe in god?

Rosie thank you!

You understand!!!

I want to speak intelligently with members of the church. I don't want them to look down on me for being an atheist. I want to live in harmony with them.

I fear one day if I spread my beliefs than I will be struck down by a fanatic. I will be "sent to hell for impersonating the work of the lord".

I want to avoid this pain.

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time. I would advise you to read the bible critically, and at the same time study the history of the period so you know the context from which it was written. You can do better by following your own moral code than to follow the bible.

That is a wonderful attitude, if it is truly meant.

Do not let any alleged 'christian' tell you no. Read the bible. It is a classic book. It will not 'make' you believe in a God and one certainly does not need to believe to read and understand the cryptic nature of it, but if you have the analytical mind you profess to have, you may find it will lead you onto greater truths through hard research. I don't know about making you a "Gooder" person, but it will not make you a bad one, especially if you have a rational and sane mind!

Why though, do you feel you need the bible to continue doing good? Why not the Quran, or the Torah, for example?

(it seems every non christian above me has given you sound advice!)

There are many paths to the Divine. You are on a truly wonderful path and it's leading you well.
If you aren't comfortable with the bible find other books and other writings to augment the good within you. There are many good books, unfortunately everything ends up getting edited for the will of society. Just remember to take into yourself only that which feels true and right to the voice/good/light within. Some deal with God others with "Source", ultimately it's the same.

In the end whether you want to call it the good within, the light within you are who you and those who get to know you are blessed as are you for bring light into the world.

Funny; we all talk about commandments, God's will and so on. Whether you believe the bible or not. There are certain truths in life. People are instilled with a sense of right and wrong. Maybe you should ask yourself where this inherent sense comes from. God? I think so, but you are free to believe as you will.

There are many things to think about with the Bible...first, it was wrote by man, for man, and interpreted by man....take it for what it is...a good history story. There are many good things in the Bible...as there are in many other "works of God"....keep your beliefs, but learn what the Bible is actually about so you are able to speak intelligently about it to those that do believe in the Bible. Does that make sense to you?

hello,,,, answer to you question,,,,,,,, reading the bible is a good start, and doing what God s expects you to do in his word is again a good thing,,,,,,, but the main answer to your question is,,,, if you are able to keep ever word of the bible and even give you body to be burnt for a sacrifice in Christs name,,, you would still go straight to hell if you are not a believer,,, those that are Christs believe he is and worship him as he is Christ,,, you must be born again,,, ,,,,,for Jesus said who so ever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved,,,but how they call in whom they have not believed, and how shall they believe in whom they have not heard ,and have shall they hear unless someone preach,,, and how shall they preach unless they have been sent,,,,,,you must believe,,,,,,,,a friend in Christ

no- you are not giving honor to whom honor is do- you can not operate in these things without an honest relationship with God-you can counterfeit the movements of God but know that it is the devils work and not of God.... God will allow no one to take credit to His annointings and not give honor to Him.It is all HIs.

Good people do not go to Heaven, saved people who have a relationship with Jesus Christ do-apart from the realtionship with Jesus you will not inherit the Kingdom of God... apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ and doing these things without a relationship with Him will though sadly to say, send you to hell because you are counterfeiting Him and His movements
