There are many denominations but only one God. The point is, does the denomination teach Christ and Him crucified? Are the basic doctrines of Christianity in place? Do they teach that Christ is God? Do they teach the Trinity? Do they teach that Jesus is only way to salvation? Do they teach that the Bible is the word of God? If they do then go there. If they don't then stay away.
There are many different minor disagreements on other doctrines that won't affect your salvation one way or the other. Discussions such as whether speaking in tongues is necessary to show that the Holy Spirit is upon you. Don't get me wrong, these doctrines are important and someone is right and someone is wrong but they won't keep you out of heaven. So, in that sense, they don't matter. Go where it seems to you that you fit in and you can believe and understand what they are saying.

There are so many denominations because men follow after their own desires (2 Timothy 4:1-4) instead of following the scriptures ehich are useful for doctrine, correction, and instruction and are able to make the man of God complete (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Which one is correct? Be a Christian, and only a Christian. The Christians in Acts 2 belonged to no denomination. In fact, at that time no denominations existed.
If we read and understand what they were taught, believe what they believed, and do only what they did, we will become what they became. Christians and not anything more. Not a member of any denomination.
Now if a few of these Christians meet together, and vow to only use the Word of God as their guide, they still have not joined any denomination. Denominations only come when you add the teaching of men.
Such un-denominational Christianity is the goal of the group that worships as the Church of Christ. (Do not confuse with the "United C-o-c" or the "International C-o-C") We want to speak where the Bible speaks, be silent where the Bible is silent, do Bible things in Bible ways, and call Bible things by Bible names.

As far as Christians believe, they compare themselves to the Nicene Creed. It's about two paragraphs long, and can be found here:
http://www.creeds.net/ancient/nicene.htm It was not written in English originally, so there are a few different varying ways it's been translated into English. As you know, words in one language usually don't exactly, perfectly, translate to another language. But, Christian denominations that believe that summation of the Bible, and don't add to the requirements for salvation or forgiveness, are part of the "correct" group.
We have many varieties of worship style, many different little things we think. Some of us feel that alcohol and dancing are bad, and will cause us to screw up. Others find they can enjoy both without doing something wrong, so they do. There are so many denominations because we all have different ideas about how's the best way to do things, and it's really all right to have that variety. We're all unique beings. In the essentials, unity. In the non-essentials, liberty. Denominations are our way of having that liberty.

After Martin Luther broke with the Catholic Church, this paved the way for the freedom to break away with other traditions. There were the Lutherans, the Anabaptist, the Calvinists, and they all fought and murdered each other. In America, there were big movements between intellectualism, and anti-intellectualism. There were also Deists, like Thomas Jefferson, who found their own way through Christianity. The Church of England also made it's break. From all of these major breaks, new denominations have been forming and breaking away from the parent religion. Just think, all of these traditions can be traced back to the original Jewish practice almost 2000 years ago! A lot has changed since then!
I personally don't think it matters what religion you choose as long and you are a good person.

Part of the problem is that scriptural Christianity and the lives of people here in America tend to differ. At the root of it, Christianity holds that Christ is superior to man; not equal to man (man is a false god; Gen. 3). All men make mistakes; (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23).
There is a man-made old testament of Genesis-Malachi, and the scriptural old testament; i.e. the law of Moses. (Per scripture, the old testament was done away; Hebrews). The Jews were told to have two or more witnesses (about three times Deut. 10-20), and the Christians were given the same command (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1). When this concept is applied, one finds the 'old testament' is the law of Moses (If someone wants my ‘two or more witnesses, and scripture they can email me).The law of Moses starts in Exodus 20God apparently had me think of this text recently; Acts 18:24-28 (please read) regarding Priscilla, Aquilla, and Apollos. Apparently, Apollos was eager to grow. I hope many Christians in this country presently are in the Apollos category.
Which one is correct for yuor eternal soul at this time? That is your choice. A congregation can chage to be more like Christ; i.e. they may be different tomorrow than they are today.

Their are several of them and some of them aren't actually Christian. The one that is best for you is for you to decide. Personally, I think that you should give up on searching for the traditional denomination with their traditional worship and their traditional ideas, most of which have nothing to do with the Bible. Read the Bible, Pray to God, and hang out with other people that believe the same way you do. That's the best denomination for anybody.

A certain group is not the important thing. To avoid the politics, I would recommend a non Denominational church. They usually are very heavy into the word of God and not man made traditions.

Denominations are the various methods in which man interprets the events recorded in the bible. One thing I think most people don't do is read and interpret for themselves. God gave you a brain, use it. Many of the events of the bible are to be taken literally and many were their best attempt to explain what they didn't understand. Do yourself a favor (something I am saying but don't do), read and come to your own understanding of what is presented.

There are so many denominations because Satan has misled so many. The one true correct church is the Church of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons. Any other religion is a one way ticket to heck.

Yikes!
I was in the same position as you, I started attending different churches to check them out. I found that Church of God and Church of Christ kind of freaked me out (some lady was speaking in tongues). Catholic was just not for me, Methodist, and Presbyterian, were OK, but I chose Baptist. My family and my husbands family are all Baptist (but that is not my reason for choosing this church), I chose it because after listening to a sermon I felt that I understood what the Pastor was talking about, I felt comfortable there. The bibles message means so much more to me now. You should check out different churches and find one that you feel comfortable in. If you feel pressured, or uncomfortable in any way just move on. Speaking of pressure, the first answer is exactly what I am talking about. Why do people think that if you are not of the same religion as they, that you will go to hell? We all believe in the same God, why do they have to turn everything into a battle? Gods message is of LOVE. I have Mormon friends, and they are wonderful people, he is the Bishop at their church, and they NEVER once condemned me for being Baptist, but praised me for believing and for taking my family to church. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, and God Bless.
