Yesterday I had to put my pom to sleep. The night before we were on a walk and he started walking funny and fell in the grass with heavy breathing, yesterday afternoon he started having seizures and by the time i got to the vet he was too far gone. Up until two days ago he was in a little ball of energy and his visits to the vet showed perfect health. His vitals showed that his liver was failing and was causing resperatory failure. Is liver failure a common birth defect in poms?

I don't believe it's a common birth defect but it is a birth defect. I had a Pom that had the same defect and died after 7 Years. I have 3 more poms now that are perfectly healthy without this defect. My vet told us that the defect comes from over breeding in the line. If the breeder you got you dog from over breeded his dog this is more likely to happen. Sorry about the loss of your pup.

Small dog breeds are prone to having a liver shunt. It is a vessel that by-passes the liver and therefore toxins cannot be filtered out properly. This can cause a build up of toxins that can cause seizures and death. Usually there are signs before hand. Sometimes the puppy just appears to be a little smaller than others their age. There are other congenital problems that can occur with the liver, but this one is one of the most common.

Was your dog a pedigree? If so this could have been the cause. Many dogs of pedigree have health issues. Some have seizures and others have heart issues. My dog is a Rat Terrier and has seizures. He's also quite hyper. Doesn't know when to lie down and be quiet. You may ask the vet to perform an autopsy to find the cause of death and if it was hereditary. Some dogs. like humans, can inherit problems from their parents.

I have a chihuahua puppy she's 6 months previous now. when I were given her she had the floppy ears and they were extremely cute, yet I knew that chi ears are meant to face up. on the time she became teething and so it became generic for a comfortable puppy's ears to be floppy. i became commencing to imagine that she'd have floppy ears continually, yet finally, they stood up. My vet stated it really is slightly pups flow through even as they're teething, yet when your Poms ears are not erect through the time he's 6-8 months previous, then you truthfully'll purely ought to come across approaches to love the actual undeniable truth that your dogs ears would in no way get up.
