This isn't really an answer but I use to know this guy who was an Atheist who knew the bible better than any Christian I ever knew. He studied it thouroughly to see if he could find any evidence of proof or dis-proof. He read it several times and still couldn't believe that it was anything more than mythological stories of morals. Everybody has their own beliefs and people should respect them. I didn't hold the same beliefs as my friend but it sure was fun to watch him debate Christians, because more than half of them he would debate had no idea what he was talking about, he would give them books and scripture numbers and everything, and they would walk away instead of trying to see another point of view. Most of the debates were started by the Christians too.

Well Mr. Mojo... Where were you when the atheist line started? I'm sure there are lots of good decent atheists out there who would like to toss a few off to the lions (pun intended) for their general lack of understanding and their ability to annoy more people than even the Christians do... And that Mr. Mojo, is an amazing feat in and of itself!
I like you for saying this... You may not care, but trust me, it is not an easy thing to do to actually get me to LIKE you.
But you also have to remember... there is also no overwhelming evidence that there is no God either. SO let's all agree to disagree and all just go out and get drunk together? We can have some fun as a group and then go beat the crap out of each other in the parking lot later on.
Now THERE is something to actually debate thats worth the time and effort. Exactly why do Bar's have parking lots?

Why quarrel ? If you read the Holy Bible, you will see all the evidence you need. Why is this so hard for you to understand ?
Why do you fight so hard against something that is true? It says: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and Thous Shalt be Saved. Don't you want to be saved ?? I gaurantee you, if you start to read the Bible it will overwhelm you. Try it and see. What do you have to loose ? I don't understand your reason of belief. But I know for sure that we are all children of God. You too. I Believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth. You say: When a believer no longer has need for a god, then he/she stops believing. No it isn't that he/she has stopped believing, it is that they have fallen away for a while, but I gaurantee, that with Jesus in their Heart, eventually they will return. Take care and may God bless you, Always !

Well said. Since I don't have anything to improve on your statement, I'll instead respond to txgirl who said:
"Everyone knows the truth down deep, but will try to talk themselves out of it so that they dont have to live under God."
I disagree completely. I don't doubt that you have strong feelings, but I think you are wrong in two ways. 1) You can't generalize your feelings to be true for everyone. 2) You're assuming that your deep feelings come from outside of you, or at least something that is not YOU, so must therefore be "God". I think it is more likley that your feelings come from inside you, from deep inside your brain/mind, based upon what you were taught at an early age. You have deep, subconscious assumptions about life and the universe you live in that you learned before you had any ability to think critically for yourself. It is that subconscious part of your mind that gives you your belief. If you had been raised in a different enironment, you wouldn't have those feelings.

I accept atheist and don't try to convince them of God, I witness to people who seek god and may have fallen into false gospels. If they truly yield to the Bible as Gods word, we can talk. The atheist and I have no common ground and obviously have not been called. After all Jesus didn't die for everyone did he. It is written that no man seekest God unless god draw him.
Jesus said , I pray for the world, not for the whole world , but those that thou hath given me , I shall not lose one.
So if a man seek after God I am happy to help. Even those that worship devils and false Gods. They may be called.
The only way I would even respond to an atheist is if he asked a serious question.
You may not believe in God , but that doesn't protect you from being judged . Enjoy your short life and your long eternity

Some atheists grew up believing in god, were disillusioned, and became atheists out of a hatred for the god they admittedly once believed in. But the hatred itself reflects a residue of belief in the thing that sustains that hate.

I don't believe in God because of a need bring order to my life. I have just come to terms with the fact that something created us and it's just easy to use a term like God so that everyone can understand what I'm referring to. I don't, though, believe in this omnipotent male creature that sits in the sky lurking and playing mind games with us that if we don't believe we will go to hell. And I believe in personal responsibility, not this whole 'The Devil made me do it' thing. We all make our own choices in life.

I'm not sure you have a question here, and I find the end of your explanation a little confusing, but I support the general sentiment. All of the violence and killing that is done in the name of religion is grotesque. I think atheism is the answer. Religion (all religions) is the problem.

I wonder what I believe in.
Whenever I gaze at the stars, I always feel the need to believe that there is something out there. Some higher source of power or energy.
But I find it soooooooooo difficult to "pray". Pray to what? to whom? Isn't it just talking to oneself? Or could the psychic power from one's prayer "quantumly" affects things or the minds of others out there?

That's not apostacy.
Apostasy (from Greek αÏοÏÏαÏία, meaning a defection or revolt , from αÏο, apo, "away, apart", ÏÏαÏιÏ, stasis, "standing") is a term generally employed to describe the formal renunciation of one's religion, especially if the motive is deemed unworthy.
Many atheists just never could believe, so there was no real faith to begin with.
Also, many atheists feel their reason IS worthy.
