Why would you title your "To MUSLIM women" and then ask about women in Arab countries? Not all Muslims are from Arab countries. There are over 1.3 billion Muslims throughout the world and only 11% of them are from the Middle East. The men that oppress the Women in these countries are not doing it because they are Muslim they are doing it because they are 'Arab'. The Christian and Jewish women in these countries (yes there are millions of Christian and Jewish women in the Middle East) also wear a veil. It has nothing to do with being Muslim. Religion and culture are seperate.

Real funny. In Iraq, under Saddam Hussein women were allowed to drive, vote (everyone had to vote for Saddam though), could wear Western clothes, had to get an education (it was mandatory). Everyone was free as long as they supported Saddam. Jordan and Lebanon are two countries that I can think of where the women are free and can wear Western clothes and get education.
You can laugh at them all you want but in the US till the 1920s women weren't allowed to vote or drive or go out on their own and couldn't get education in a school.

depends on which country. When I was in Saudi they couldn't, seen 12 year old boys driving the women. They let females doctors sometimes. I think it makes them nervous gives them a complex. Why maybe the women are smarter, must be because the ones I knew except for a couple were like dumb.

My sister in law is a doctor from Pakistan.
My friend is from Lebanon and she is a teacher and tv host.
My family is in India, Pakistan, Lebanon, as well as several family friends in Egypt, Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, and UAE. They all drive (except from Saudi Arabia), they all are bilingual, or even trilingual, they all have jobs, they're all educated, and only some of them cover their heads. No one makes us cover ourselves, it's a choice we make on our own. They love their countries, and they love to live in their countries. We are free, it's only the media and stereotypes that make people believe we have no rights. True, in some places there are issues with women's rights, but it's the same in the USA too. Women here get a litle over half the pay for the same job as a man. I wouldn't call that equal.

Forget Saudi Arabia. If people have a problem with them, they'll make sure the government gets it. They're not a dictatorship, but run the power with the Church (or in this case Mosque.) Simple Theology.

Yes ,our women freely vote in most arab countries.....and all women in 22 arab countries drive freely......and about wearing the veil....its a freedom of choice but islam obliges that as christianity and judaism......The veil is obliged in the three religions....read the bible well :-))And by the way the veil only covers the hair(not the face) and it is a sign of respect for the women .....that they r so precious and not for sale like in ur red light districts and bordels!!!Many women converted to Islam just for the sake of hijab(the veil)...bcs they see it as a romantic thing(that the women in islam r really taken care of and kept from harm)....And the women have free access for internet and everything...all what u hear is a pile of lies to ruin the reputation of arabs....Did u know for example that we arabs have the highest tower on earth....in the United Arab Emirates.,Dubai!!! Do u know we have one of the fastest growth rates on this planet.....Do u know that at least 30% of NASA's scientists are arabs and muslims.....Do u know that the numbers that u write with are arabic numerals (1 2 3...etc...)!!! Arabs r a great contributing nation and we love peace and prosperity..but your media fills ur minds with too much lies....log on the net for God's sake....and use ur search engines and fetch the truth and fetch for photos of Dubai a city in the united arab emirates for example...See how beautiful it is and see how modern we are!!! Look up the net for "burj dubai" the highest tower on earth.....or "burj al-arab" the finest hotel on earth. The point is we r good ,even best in many things ..we r not living in tents and have no civilisation as u think.I think YOU people have no right in ur countries to know the truth...the proof is ur ignorant comments...but be sure that there r no bad feelings at all....LOVE AND PEACE FROM ARABIA. :-)

Islam clearly teaches that a woman is a full-person under the law, and is the spiritual equal of a male. Also, according to Islamic Law, women have the right to own property, operate a business and receive equal pay for equal work. Women are allowed total control of their wealth, they cannot be married against their will and they are allowed to keep their own name when married. Additionally, they have the right to inherit property and to have their marriage dissolved in the case of neglect or mistreatment. Also, Islam does not consider woman an "evil temptress", and thus does not blame woman for the "original sin". Women in Islam participate in all forms of worship that men participate in. Actually, the rights that Islam gave to women over 1400 years ago were almost unheard of in the West until the 1900s. Less than fifty years ago in England and America, a woman could not buy a house or car without the co-signature of her father or husband!
Islam is winning Western women admirers despite hostile media coverage It is even more ironic that most British converts should be women, given the widespread view in the west that Islam treats women poorly. In the United States, women converts outnumber men by four to one, and in Britain make up the bulk of the estimated 10, 000 to 20, 000 converts, forming part of a Muslim community of 1 to 1.5 million.
Cover is not a priority even though it is mandated. The priority is faith, knowledge of Islam and observance of Salat (prayers). If the woman is assimilating the teaching of Islam properly then she will continue of what to do and what not to do
The whole point, modesty is prescribed to protect women from molestation or simply, modesty is protection. Thus, the only purpose of the veil in Islam is protection
A culture of modesty is badly needed, modesty in dress, in speech, and in manners of both men and women. Otherwise, the grim statistics will grow even worse day after day and, unfortunately, women alone will be paying the price. Actually, we all suffer but as K. Gibran has said, "...for the person who receives the blows is not like the one who counts them." 84 .
Naheed Mustafa graduated from the University of Toronto with an honours degree in political and history. She is currently studying journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic University she said ;
WOMEN are taught from early childhood that their worth is proportional to their attractiveness. We feel compelled to pursue abstract notions of beauty, half realizing that such a pursuit is futile.
When women reject this form of oppression, they face ridicule and contempt. Whether it's women who refuse to wear makeup or to shave their legs, or to expose their bodies, society, both men and women, have trouble dealing with them.
In the Western world, the hijab has come to symbolize either forced silence or radical, unconscionable militancy. Actually, it's neither. It is simply a woman's assertion that judgment of her physical person is to play no role whatsoever in social interaction.
Wearing the hijab has given me freedom from constant attention to my physical self. Because my appearance is not subjected to public scrutiny, my beauty, or perhaps lack of it, has been removed from the realm of what can legitimately be discussed.
No one knows whether my hair looks as if I just stepped out of a salon, whether or not I can pinch an inch, or even if I have unsightly stretch marks. And because no one knows, no one cares.
Feeling that one has to meet the impossible male standards of beauty is tiring and often humiliating. I should know, I spent my entire teenage years trying to do it. It was a borderline bulimic and spent a lot of money I didn't have on potions and lotions in hopes of becoming the next Cindy Crawford.

I seriously doubt any Muslim women in their native Arab country are online. Their husbands wouldn't allow it. They're highly oppressed.
