It depends on several factors....Is it a major or a minor transaction? Is there a curtain on the bathtub? How large is the bathroom?
Your question asks what do you say to your wife if she's taking a bath and I have to use the bathroom? Is the person you are referring to (the "I" in the question) the husband of the woman taking the bath or a third party in the house? This is simply a grammatical point as you switched from second person to first person in the same sentence.

Most serious couples start going to the bathroom in front of each other earlier than marriage. It's kind of a wierd milestone letting the other know that he/she is in love and is comfortable with the other. I have never had to ask my husband if I could come in and use the bathroom, and vise versa.

If you are just going to urinate it should not be a problem. Most couples are comfortable enough to use the restroom in front of one another. If you may make the whole room smell bad, you may want to politely tell her you need to go and ask if she would step out of the tub or finish up rather quickly. There is always the option (which I would appreciate if I had a bad day and needed to unwind in the tub) for you to drive to a gas station or fast food place and use theirs. Good luck.

My husband just knocks on the door and then tells me he has to go. I normally just stay in my tub and close the shower curtain, just to give him a bit of privacy. Or he will just ask me to hurry up.
